Bad news New York...the Flames are in town! And we're going to eat all your pizza and drink your Manhattans!

John no longer nimble, John not quick.
John got burnt falling into a flaming candle stick.
12-0 Flames. Parekh with 6 goals.

I missed yesterday's game because of work. I literally sat down in the car and turned the radio on in time to hear the McMichael 3rd period goal. Listened to all 4 goals on the drive home.
I actually get to watch today's game so hopefully I get to see some Flames goals because that was an awful drive home yesterday.

It's kind of crazy how important this game could end up being on draft day.
Hate cheering for Flames losses, but let's face it........they need to lose this game. I really wish Shesterkin was playing back to back tonight. Quick is terrible.

The Flames now have two players, not including Strome and Maatta, with more than .5 PPG, Backlund and Frost. Strome and Maatta have both have big boosts playing for their new team, but that will wear off quickly.
The Rangers just have a much better lineup and should hopefully win this one.

What happens if the Flames lose this game, finish 1 point behind the Rangers, and then the Rangers win the draft lottery and get the first pick.
Do we all come back to this game and wish we had won it instead?

That's too much of a butterfly effect scenario to worry about. You could make the case that winning this game wouldn't have helped the Flames, as the lottery balls come out in a different order anyways.
If the Rangers win the draft, the Flames still have a great shot at #2-3, if they finish second last.

That's exactly my point. No one knows where the balls will fall or how this will play out. There's no "must lose" or "must win" from here on out. Savour the wins, embrace the losses and enjoy watching the young kids play. It'll all work out in the end.

And so many layers of butterfly effect.
1) This game and standings.
2) Who wins the lottery and doesn't
3) Which player is taken with what pick
The Flames came back and beat the Wild in their last game on 2016 to pass Winnipeg in the standings. Then the Jets won the lottery and moved up to #2 which felt like a huge loss. Then Laine had the career he had vs the Flames taking Tkachuk.

Naw. You have to play the odds. A 2nd last finish gives the Flames about a 60% chance of picking top 3. It's not just about the #1 overall pick. The top 3 picks are all potentially franchise changing.

The biggest one here is the Avs in 2017.
They finish last overall.
But the Devils, Flyers, and Stars all win the lottery and bump the Avs down 3 spots.
NJD takes Hischier, Philly takes Patrick, Dallas takes Heiskanen
Avs take Cale Makar.
The implications for those franchises are immense. Dallas still does ok. But can you imagine if Colorado gets the 2nd overall pick instead. Would they have drafted Patrick? And then does Philly get Makar at 4? Or do they draft someone else.
In Bob's final rankings he had it in the same order as the players went, including Makar at 4.
There's a chance the Avs would have taken him at 1, 2 or 3. We'll never know.
But goodness it's the luckiest draft lotto loss ever.

I don't disagree. I just feel like there's too many factors at play, and factors that are out of anyone's control, to really be really worried about it.
"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life."
I'm just here to vibe and enjoy the ride. Getting a top 2 pick in this draft would be amazing but I trust Connie and the scouting staff to find a stud no matter where we pick.

If we got Laine instead of the rat, we maybe enter a rebuild sooner and be in the running for Bedard/Schaefer/Celebrini. So maybe that would have been a blessing in disguise.

Or.........all the picks remain where they are after the lottery and the Flames draft 2nd.
All I'm saying is that it's preferable if the Flames lose tonight. IMO of course. I'd rather be bottom 2 going into the lottery than finish 4 or 5 and hope everything falls into place.

That could happen, but it's unlikely.
A far more likely scenario to worry about is we win tonight, NYR gets the #2 position and we get the #3 position, neither team wins the lotto, and NYR gets Stenberg and he goes on to be a HOF NHL forward.
Now that scenario worries me.

I agree factors are outside of anyone's control. A 2nd last finish gives the Flames about a 60% chance of picking top 3 and a guaranteed top 4 pick. A 3rd last finish gives them about a 30% chance at a top 3 pick and a guaranteed top 5 pick.
Even if things are outside of their control. #4 is much better than #5 overall even, as it will give the Flames a guarantee at the 3rd best forward or 2nd best d-man.

I can't see how the Flames lose tonight. They got lit up and embarrassed last night. I expect they'll come out and play hard. Wolf will be in fine form.
3-1 Flames.
Goals from Sharengovich, Backlund, and Lomberg.
