Yes they do but lots of discussion of them not wanting to use it on Kadri since it's over 3 years (4 if they buy him out the last year).

Next year might be difficult but the season after that they free up a lot of space with Danault, Gallagher and Anderson all becoming UFAs

well, the Flames are trying to move two players that they might retain on. Also, the retention is for multiple years, so it may inhibit future trades. Habs would have to make it worth it!

He'll probably play for 5 games and be injured for the rest of it. Take him now as a cap dump to move Kadri and lower expectations that we are going to get more out of him
