The Flames were the 9th youngest team at the start of the season. Without Huberdeau, Weegar and potentially Kadri and Coleman not on the team anymore, they have to be closer to bottom 3-4.

Not that age/experience is everything when considering a captain, but the next oldest players after Backlund potentially become Hanley, Lomberg, and then Whitecloud.

Too early for Coronato. He has a great work ethic, but he still needs to take his game to the next level.. Once he does, give him a letter.

But you have to get there first.

I feel like it will be Coronato and Bahl....

There aren't really any other options.

Whitecloud seems like an obvious choice for me. Cup winner, seems to be good with media, steady d-man, he's already been involved with promoting the Indigenous celebration night on Saturday despite on being here for 12 games.

I think giving Coronato leadership responsibilities will be good for his development

I think Coronato disappears a bit too often. That's the same reason I'm not really considering Frost, or Zary.

I think Bahl, Whitecloud, and Farabee are probably the next wave of leaders, that will do the little things, fight for teammates, and block shots, and do it pretty consistently.

If we're getting the Maatta from a year ago then he could actually become one of the leaders as well. The guy is always really liked in the room, and has good shot suppression, despite being a pretty decent puck moving D. I doubt he gets the A, but if he plays like he did a year ago he will be a fan favorite similar to Whitecloud.

Put an A on Wolf and Cooley. They seem to be carrying the team this year anyway.

I would go with Bahl and Farabee.
Both character players that are going to be important in keeping a competitive culture alive. Both players that play a full game and don't cheat in their effort.

Backlund, Bahl, Coronato, Frost.

And no more importing leadership.

What about Zary? Been around a bit and has battled through a bit. Seems like a good kid.

Backlund and two As in enough, we had way too many captains to begin with. Seems like one of Kadri or coleman at least will be here so they just need one more and hard to say from here without knowing the room

Out of all the young guys, Pospisil gets my vote. Works hard in games and in practice, and trains hard in the off-season. He isn't exactly young either, as he is 26 years old. Olympic experience helps.

Bahl should probably get a letter now.

Whitecloud is new, but it is hard not to think of him as a leader on the team right now.

Lomberg should get one out of respect right now.

Lots of possibilities. Still some good leaders on this team, and that's great to see.

Interestingly in Conroy's interview with Pat last night, he specifically mentioned Zary as a young player that is starting to take on more of a leadership role. It was a broader comment, but he mentioned him specifically which is telling.

I really liked the story about Pospisil taking Honzek under his wing. Making him train with him and go hard every time.

I still don't think he gets an A, because he will likely be a 4th liner for the duration of that contract.

Our first round pick from this year gets an A, as does our first round pick in 2027.
