Hopefully the return is big and it sets a precedent for other centres being moved this deadline.

Yup. In other words, it's an active market.

Would love to see this trade happen - would light a fire under BOS and DET, and probably others. Would also leave UTH looking for a new shiny toy to chase.

Yeah Buffalo is pretty close to Home for Thomas.

Helenius (2024 14 OV) , 2026 1st, Ostlund (2022 16 OV) would be my guess.

That's pretty close to the 3 picks that were in the top 15 of the draft that the ask reportedly was.

Maybe Mrtka (2025 9th OV) instead of Ostlund but that's really rich at that point.

He's from Aurora though, that could play a part if he wants to be close to his family (~2-hour drive).

Wouldn't be so sure. Very close to home for Thomas

Don't think Powers involved. I'd expect Levi to be one of the pieces though

I'm not sure I agree.

Sabres had been patient - it's probably time to push some chips in for them.

And Thomas who plays a position of need, has a good contract, and is still in the right age group for their core is a good target.

Buffalo would become my #1 Cup contender this year if they add Thomas

My guess is Rosen is part of this. Has scored at every level but is behind the logjam of other Rosens on their team.

Zero playoff experience.

I'll be rooting for them, but I'm not ready to call them favorites

Hasn't Colorado been mediocre since the calendar was turned? I'm not sure they are as dominant as the early part of the season indicated.

Lots of injuries. But I've always had a belief (never did the leg work on it) that teams that start strong often finish strong. Hard to be dominant non-stop for 6 months, but my money is still on them.

You don’t want to rebuild cause you don’t want to end up like Buffalo.

If the Sabres do get Thomas, I think that would leave the Kadri market largely untouched as I doubt he would ever entertain going to Buffalo.

Hopefully the Sabres get Thomas quickly and then the remaining C buyers come around to Conroy with offers for Kadri.

I get the logic, but the Sabres have rushed timeline moves before. If the cost is multiple high-end futures (Helenius would be a massive no for me), I feel like you’re shortening the runway on a core that still hasn’t proven it can consistently win.

What can the sabres trade that isn't going to mess with the chemistry they have going right now?
