This is the Oilers we're talking about here. They don't have many options and they need a guy with proven scoring ability, even if it has dropped off the planet. Mind you, they do have Zack Howard in minors to be their playoff savior.

They could just try to get the band back together.

Canucks are trying to get rid of Kane. Desharnais can be had for a 7th. Devils are 11 points out so go get Brown again. Kings could miss with Fiala done for the year so call up Kenny and make a deal for Perry.

Yeah, it would make more sense if Edmonton hadn’t already tried that experiment and seen it fail. No idea why they’d bring the play work when he just keeps getting worse.

We have also seen this season; Texier and Zamula mutually terminate contracts, and sign for less money with new NHL teams in exchange for better playing opportunities.
The Sharks AHL team is in San Jose. His life wouldn’t have been uprooted, other than his pride.

Edmonton is not well known for making sensible decisons

Pride....and just not willing to ride the bus again.

I get that part!

I was thinking the Stars... Their LW depth could use a boost and Skinner would be coming in as "free" as opposed to whatever Coleman might cost.

Edmonton claims thinking they're getting Stu back.

It might simply be a case of Skinner not wanting to ride the pine or play in the AHL, and would rather sit at home than do that. Money may be immaterial to him at this time.

Why do teams keep signing this guy? Ever since he signed that big contract in Buffalo he's been an absolute disappointment and liability and is constantly being benched or bought out.

Cue the Arrested Development meme *But it might work for us*.

Seriously though there's far too many NHL GM's that fall into this trap with players and/or coaches. It's why it shouldn't surprise anyone if he's on an NHL roster next season.

With $106 million in career earnings, you'd think giving up $1 million or so wouldn't be a big deal, yes.

Well, playing in the AHL means that the Sharks would be clearing a roster spot, so same. Though they’d still be at max 50 contracts I think.

Could you imagine if they somehow traded or claimed him and got him back? That would be like Andy Dufresne climbing through five football fields of human crap, getting out of the pipe, but then being caught by the warden within 10 minutes and being sent back to prison.

Overall he was a disappointment, but he did have two seasons of 63 points in Buffalo and one of 82.

I probably think that SJ had the intentions of signing him to trade him at the deadline considering his contract was a NMC until Jan 30th and then converted to 8 team no trade list. The problem is he just isn't good enough.
