I keep thinking about how much better they would look with Bedard and Schaefer.

I guess at least with the Bedard omission, it will make more sense to have gone with some of the more defensively capable options when they play a team like the US, but I still think Shaefer is a big miss.

Yes, but he knew how to protect the puck and flip it in.

A real goal scorers goal.

I disagree. This would be fine if it was the elimination round, but it isn't. Guys like Stone, Jarvis, a couple of others are playing this the right way. Most guys are playing it like it's an all-star game. That is, they'll put the puck into an empty net, or they'll finish a cross-crease tap in, but they won't aggressively drive to the net or take an open look.

McDavid had a wide open look in front and tried some weak back-door bull####. Marner is doing spinning drop passes. Guys are skating at half speed and d-men are limp-wristing outlet passes. They're taking what's available and that's about it. That's not how this works.

Absolutely.

Some will probably Flame me for it, but I have always felt that Mark Stone reminds me of Lemieux. Obviously there is only one Lemieux, and he could do some things that Stone (or anyone else) can't. But his hands, vision, and ability to make plays in tight and in slow motion, are very Lemieux-esque.

And Bedard was coming off an injury, although they indicated that did not make a difference.

France's uniforms are the most boring I've ever seen. They're like practice jerseys.

They have amazing soccer jerseys. They have beautiful colours to have the best jerseys around but I guess whomever the designer was spent time on the bigger countries.

Anyway, what the heck is Ron Maclean doing with a hockey stick? The guy looks so out of place with it on screen. He keeps coming out with it each game.

I think it's killing Ron that he's not on the panel with the hockey crew for intermissions. Some producer was like, don't worry Ron, here's a stick you can wave around a bit and feel like you're part of the conversation.

Could be some subconscious self-preservation occurring here, too, especially after the players watched what happened to Fiala last game. The coaching staff and leadership group need to get that wiped from memories for the 2nd and 3rd.

Perfect example... What the #### is Sanheim doing there? You cannot tell me that this looks like a team trying to do anything but play shinny. I've seen three passes go between French skates, they're trying to nutmeg them.

Unbelievably frustrating to watch. At least Reinhart understands the assignment apparently.

To distract from Ronnie “Sather” Maclean, highlights commentator calls New Zealand athlete “Aussie”. Which balances the commentary of calling an Australian a “kiwi”. Just call them by their country name if you don’t actually know.

CBC what are you doing with these people.

Also having Jarome Iginla as the top scorer is still awesome!

With Andi Petrillo and James Duthie, the host / hostess job should be taken care of, for the foreseeable future
