If they do get to the finals, the east is also weak aside from Tampa.

Oilers are not getting past Vegas.
And you never know--- the Kings play pretty good defence. With Panarin boost and emotions running high for Kopitar's last year......sports are a funny thing.

We'll see. Vegas added a bona fide star, a 100 point guy, and they still have a losing record.

NO, its not just the points...its all the teams that also play each other
Bob also sucks this year, I don't care who is in your lineup you can't win with bad goaltending

When he pulls another groin he will retire and run for a Florida senate position.

I probably missed the discussion when it happened but does anyone here remotely like Tkachuk now that hes publicly pro trump? I was pretty disappointed, even if I wasn't surprised. Also find it laughable that he romps around as such a proud yank, even though his mums from Winnipeg.

Bob's contract comes off the books, does he re-sign for a serious haircut?
Maybe they can squeeze in Khadri in the off-season, and retain him at 50%, for a healthy return. Not sure if Florida is on his NTC tho.

They are pretty beat up and battered so making it was always going to be a long shot. The most important thing is being missed here though. The Oilers really suck @ss and will probably miss the playoffs too.
A part of me will miss the annual tradition of watching McDavid and Oiler fans hearts getting ripped out but all good things must come to an end.

IDK I was mocked pretty hard in the preseason for suggesting they might struggle to get in

I have been concerned for most of the first half because they've been up and down, and haven't really defended that well. The goaltending has been below average as well. Their scoring was okay, but lacking at times.
However, they recently went through a rough stretch where they lost 5 of 6 games, and their one win was a game they almost blew in the third before winning in a shootout (Boston). Before that, they were only treading water with about a .500 record.
There's something off this year. They still play a game with good underlying metrics, but it's sloppy. They look tired, a step behind, not willing to do the physical things to win pucks quite as much. You could almost suggest they have a Stanley Cup hangover. They've gone to the finals 3 straight years, this is what it looks like to play that much hockey of a physical and gruelling nature. They're worn out.
Right now they're 8 points out of a playoff spot with about 25 games to go. They would need to jump over 6 other teams to just get into a wildcard spot. Can they do it? Logic would say no, but I've seen this team rally at the important times of the season and rattle off a bunch of wins. I guess we'll see how they come out of the break. It doesn't help that they have a lot of players going to the olympics and won't get a rest: Tkachuk, Reinhart, Marchand, Bennett, Lundell, Luostarinen, Mikkola, Forsling, Balinskis, and Vilmanis.
If they played in the West, it'd be a different story, but given their circumstances, I don't expect them to make the playoffs. Barkov's injury left too big a hole on this team to fill for an entire season.

What difference does it make where his mother is from? He grew up an American. My mother is from Scotland, but that doesn't change how Canadian I am.

Well in this context the country he is so vehemently proud of has countlessly threatened the place his own mother was born and raised, and he who has dual citizenship in. You'd think Chantal would have instilled a baseline level of awareness in him.

Panthers continue to get away with murder. Laughable that the only discipline coming out of last night's game was Douglas getting fined.
