- US college towns are a ####show
- Penn State is in one of the biggest pure college towns in the US.
- Bar fights happen relatively frequently.
- Cops are intolerant and will press charges quickly
- Alcohol certainly used all around. Hopefully he wasn't also on some sort of drug when this occurred.
- Ultimately, freshmen in US college are more similar to a grade 10 here in terms of alcohol awareness and history of use. Often this leads to a higher frequency of violence, crime, and alcohol poisoning than in Canada.
This is all on Gavin being an idiot, but I bet this could derail NCAA efforts to attract draft eligible canadian players.

Of all the types of assault that this could’ve been…. I’m not as worried about him punching a guy at a bar…

Safe to say this year and move to Penn State has been nothing short of a disaster for McKenna.

The immediate concern for him is the rest of the college season. Student athletes have behavior conditions.
The charging document has 4 charges all right, but I suspect he will end up with only one (or none if he's NG). Theya re all just variations of the same incident.
I guess what this questions is his decision making, his ability to not react under pressure etc. But he's just a kid so all this can pass. Matthews, Kane, Kane, Stoll, ROR (mind you all of these after they made the NHL).

Could be like a Scottie Scheffler situation when he was charged in May of 2024 and facing a maximum sentence of 5-10 years for 1 felony and 3 misdemeanor charges. Before the charges were ultimately dropped.

So how long will this take to be resolved? Will this still be ongoing at the draft? He has seriously damaged his future.

Points 1,2 & 4 are bang on…
I had a young guy working for me who was drunk and stupid at a campus bar. While he was getting turfed, the bouncers kicked the crap out of him, but he was similarly charged.
Fortunately, his family had the wherewithal to buy his way out of it, as is the way in the US.
Stories like this make me happy my large, muscular meathead 19 year old son does not drink.

Mistakes happen … but this is a major red flag. Shows me he’s not serious about his career. Or is taking it for granted. Either way not good.

Much of this is baseless generalizations. I'm questioning your credentials as an expert.
