still incredible to me how the Rangers have ended up in this situation.
get a superstar winger for free in free agency
have a Norris level defenseman force his way onto your team
find a Vezina level goalie in the 4th round of the draft
draft 2nd and 1st overall in back-to-back years
how do you eff this up that badly? Insane.

I always wondered about the Caps as a destination. One final hoorah for Ovechkin and company. But probably not going to go all in at this point.

I hope he goes to the Sharks or Ducks and puts a stick in the spokes of the Vegas wheels.
But, I do not think either team really needs a top line winger as much as an upgrade in D.

I wonder if a team like the Avalanche would be interested,
They have cap space....

Or knock out the oilers in round 1. Let the knights win the cup so we can get that extra 1st

They were always incredibly overrated. A ton of that lineup was on the other side of the curve, and their defence always seemed to be plodding about. They were saved by great goaltending for the past 25 years. Drury hasn't adjusted them to the "new NHL" by bringing in enough skilled puck movers who can skate.

But watch it be Vegas. Somehow.

There were definitely some people saying that they couldn't sit him even if just for a game or two once it leaked he was allowed to negotiate with other teams.

I don't think the league would care about scratching a player if a trade happened within 24 hours. It's when players are held out for a bunch of games when no trade is imminent that they take issue with.

Totally not a fit here, but I remember when he signed as an undrafted free agent in Chicago, it was reported that the Flames were runner-up. Something about him worrying that he might not get the best opportunity with the Flames already having Gaudreau on the team. It obviously wouldn't make any sense now, but if that was true, it might indicate that opportunity is just as important as location.

That’s why this one’s interesting- according to the tweet he is expected to be held out of all remaining games (4) before the break. That’s pushing it.

…also no trade is imminent. It’s “until a trade materializes”.

I wonder if he ends up in Minnesota....they need something if they want a realistic chance of getting out of that division.
