See, this is one reason why I don’t like the term ‘tank’. A tank job was originally a fixed boxing match, where one boxer hit the canvas like he was diving into a tank. There’s an old joke about a tank job so blatant, the guy fell down before his opponent could hit him.

In other words, this play. That was a tank!

Yeah that is definitely up there among the most ridiculous calls I can remember.

Just an absolutely routinely situation, not particularly fast or in any way surprising movements by anyone, players are relatively far apart etc. It's not even that rare that a defensive player in that situation trips up on their own.

With multiple refs this is just completely inexcusable.

I find that multiple refs increase the number of bogus calls like this. The ref furthest away from the play will call a penalty based on something he couldn't see properly, and the other ref, who did see that there was no infraction, either has no power to overrule him, or doesn't want to make his partner look bad.

That shouldn't be how it works, and also not how it works if the refs are competent.

No one thinks a ref is bad if they take back a call because another ref corrected them. Most of the audience will likely not even notice, and no one will remember it after the game. Good refs can even ask for confirmation themselves.

Agreed. But we all know that isn’t always the case.

The NHL should probably incorporate the ability for the Situation Room to intervene in obvious mistakes like this one like they are doing in CFL/NFL. You would hate a call like this to decide a game. If they can remove a goal because a play is a perceived 1mm offside, they should be able to correct obvious mistakes like this one.

Refs should know Lane can’t knock over anyone.

Yup, just move the 2nd ref off ice and have them have the ability to view the game on a giant screen and communicate with the on ice ref to reverse/make a call in blatant scenarios.

You must not watch much NFL

The refs are bad though, well biased which is bad. But in this case its not like he was trying to get Montreal in the box with the angle he saw it wrong. Ref also admitted the mistake and apologized so IDK what more you want. Public stoning?

How many games is Foligno expected to miss due to injury?

Somebody check if there were any prop bets for over/under on number of penalties called in the game.

The refs get it wrong sometimes. They don't have all the angles and things happen fast.

Maybe the blue line should be a speed bump OR.....

Maybe a Taser ?!?!?! Go offside and find out ??? No more offside just instantly electrocuted and play continues . What is Department of player Safety gonna do now ? Come on NHLPA make it happen.

Thr refs are wrecking the gsme anyway .....ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!!!
