Seems pretty illegal without congressional approval, but then again they've been attacking Venezuela for months without any rebuke from the other houses of government.
Marco Rubio has become a disgusting shill for this authoritarian American government. He's been selling the "legality" of attacking Venezuela for months now.

So let me get this completely straight. Trump pardoned the Honduran president for being a drug dealer saying it was a Biden political prosecution and the president of the country shouldn’t have been arrested.
Now he arrests the Venezuelan president in an even more violent fashion?
Look Maduro is scum, but wtf is going on here?

Oh, you, I and anyone with two brain cells to rub together will get that. Meanwhile US republicans will continue to drool and democrats will be faced with having to somehow point out how stupidly illegal this is and a dangerous precedent while not defending Maduro.

Justification is Trump is a child rapist and he needs us talking about anything else. And to steal the oil, of course.

Trump raped kids - everyone knows that.
His base knows that, his party knows that, Congress knows that - but none of them care and nothing will ever be done about it.
Trump is a child rapist, terrorist and war criminal and nobody that matters or can do anything about it, cares.

That he’s a drug lord and has already been indicted in the US and is being brought to trial. Just like the Honduran president he just pardoned.

Has it ever mattered what Americans say when they want to go full imperialism? Pick a lie, any lie, show it to the audience, and that'll play to the cultists and American media.

Well he’s doing a presser at 11am (9am here), but they’ve indicted Maduro in NY. The crimes are narco-terrorism conspiracy and possession of machine guns (seriously, as reported in the Wall Street Journal!)

They've been justifying attacks saying that Maduro is directing drug trafficking to the U.S. through one of the cartels, although there's no concrete evidence of that happening. If it's about drug trafficking, it gets around the need for congressional approval because they can say it's about law enforcement (think of the arrest of El Chapo on Mexican soil for instance). However, while Mexican law enforcement had knowledge of that operation and aided Americans, this is completely different, as it appears that Venezuelan military and police authorities were caught unaware and do not seem to be on the same side as the American forces.
As much as Maduro is despicable (and he truly is), this is a fully illegal attack/invasion and there's no obvious justification for it. As others have pointed out, if it really is about drugs, it's inconsistent with his treatment of the Honduran officials who received a pardon recently.
Part of me thinks this is a little bit about revenge for Trump who hates Maduro because he criticizes Trump and refuses to bend the knee. I don't think he gives two ####s about drugs, and he only cares a little bit about oil. As others have pointed out, it could also easily be a smoke screen to deflect attention away from the recently released Epstein files.

That he passed a dementia test.
It's clearly about the oil, but he's using the same drug-cover he used against Canada. Make up bull####. What he's saying doesn't really matter, though, because no one believes it on any side. The people with the power to stop him won't. The Mad King is on a blitz.
The Alberta finance minister should be terrified here, along with anyone long term plans for our heavy oil. The US just showed their long term plans, and it's not good for us at all.

If he cares about drugs it's to get his cabinet direct supplier pricing and cut out the middleman. Easily the most coked up administration in history.

Putin must be happy this morning. He can be upset about this and it also means he can go arrest neighbouring heads of state.

Florida republicans are falling over themselves to praise this. Most Venezuelan migrants live there and of course they’d also love for Cuba to be next.

Opposite. This operation in part is to prevent Venezuela from falling to China. Which is what it has been leaning towards.
Taiwan (for now) has the microprocessor IP that can’t fall to China either.
If anything it shows a very strong message that the US doesn’t eff around on this stuff.
To be clear, I am not for this operation. Yet Maduro and his gov’t are scum. This is not how this is supposed to work at all. Yet may many people of Venezuela are likely happy that their country has a chance.
