Not sure why it is only 2 years.
I guess the org will have an idea of where they want to be at that time and will evaluate.
My thoughts is this is a super quick build so I would hope for a longer term.

So was it Conroy's idea to get Maloney in the media?
You don't like my number? How about you see what your alternative really is.

I think this will be the new norm for everybody in the NHL. Shirt term deals on personnel as well as players.

After opening, bologna is good for 3 to 5 days in the refrigerator. To extend its freshness, store it in a tightly sealed container and consume it before the end of this period.

I'm sure it doesn't matter to Conroy if it is 2 years. It is not like if they don't extend he wouldn't get another job somewhere else the next day.

Its an odd disconnect that the org seems deaf when it comes to the leadership messaging in regards to a rebuild and youth. But then seems to wring their hands, hoping the fans don't object to the timing of a Conroy extension due to a bad start.

He'll be ready to renegotiate his next deal after they have that sweet new arena cash rolling in.

Any sort of melodrama he can create he will and try and regain some credibility as an insider.
That said, it’s offset by the fact that there’s also the good chance he didn’t know much of anything and is getting fed peice meal information from the Flames and is parroting that.
Flames clearly wanted a good PR week after last week.
I don’t think there’s ever any doubt about Conroy. Pushing the narrative from some in the media to try and poke the Flames into some sort of comment and create drama, around Conroy not having a contract, lead to the Maloney thing so guys like Francis also believe they accomplished their goal.

Two years after this year will bring him to 5 full years when the deal ends. Probably enough time to evaluate how things are going.
