To quote the great Lemmy Kilmister:
You win some, lose some
It's all the same to me
Hope it's a fun to watch game and younger guys play well.

We may catch Buffalo today. So it's an "important" game for us.

However, during a one-on-one interview earlier this week with Postmedia, Zary was pointing the finger elsewhere.
At himself.
“There’s not much sugarcoating, right? There’s really not much to say — it’s just play better,” Zary said. “It’s tough always moving around and playing different positions and trying to find chemistry. But at the end of the day, you can’t be sh—y every night and expect to be good.”
|

You try to be good with your details, be good with the little things,” Zary said. “But at the end of the day, you come off and you see zeroes across the scoresheet, it’s tough, right? You go back to that, and that’s what you’re supposed to be doing and you’re not doing that, it’s kind of one of those things that you really start to overthink and grip your stick over.
“You have good games, you feel good and you just don’t get the bounces, and then you just get a little down on yourself. But just try to claw out of it, try to be positive and reset.
“It’s really just trying to come in every morning with a positive attitude and reset and try to impact the game.”

Flames bench boss Ryan Huska puts a huge emphasis on pace and the numbers suggest that No. 47 seems to be missing a step, which might explain why his nightly icetime this fall has dipped more than two minutes below his career average.
NHL Edge tracks the fastest skating speeds for each individual player, and Zary has topped out so far this season at 20.55 m.p.h. That is the slowest among the 13 forwards on Calgary’s active roster.
By comparison, Zary’s peak speed in 2024-25 was 22.01 m.p.h., although that was before he suffered two separate knee injuries. Maybe there are lingering effects?

It is sad that is has come to this (because of the ownership), but you are absolutely right.

I am pro rebuild, and I won't argue with the logic of the sentiment. But I can't cheer for losses.

I don't believe that ownership is dictating to Conroy what path to take. I believe that path had been decided already a couple of seasons ago, and we are finally witnessing the outcome of that decision. A few wins here and there isn't going to change anything. Andersson will be traded, and likely Kadri if someone steps up with a good offer, and I wouldn't be surprised if even more trades beyond these two happen this season. This is a rebuild, and the Flames are not going to shift focus after a couple of wins early in the season, especially after a disastrous start.

Not being upset when they lose is one thing. That's where I'm at this season.
But actively cheering for your team to lose like you're watching the Oilers play is crazy.

The Flames have been rebuilding since Conroy came in. Flames ownership basically lets the GM implement their vision. Treliving’s was to trade away most futures to try to win now, did it here and he did it in Toronto. Conroy had a different vision. Ownership allowed both GM’s the ability to implement their visions.

Can't quote you AaronGavey, but yes, 100% agreed.
I am not sure that Treliving's hands were at all tied in his time here. Rumours maybe about the Bishop trade (and thank goodness the owners stepped in and vetoed it, IF true!). Maybe they thrust Sutter onto Treliving - but again, probably a good thing as Sutter seemed to give one really good year here.
I remember when Treliving was bringing in Peters, one of the owners (I am not sure who) piped-up and brought up Sutter's name, stating that he thinks Sutter should be approached. In the end, Treliving got his way with Peters.
As for the owners being 'cheap' and not willing to retain - that needs to die too. Feaster proudly expressed the 'open for business' sign for taking bad deals (but the buyouts killed the market that year). Flames have been retaining lately too, and have allowed Treliving a batch of buyouts as well, and they allowed Maloney to fire Sutter even though Sutter had just re-signed.
I am fairly sure that the owners have known what the plan was all along by Conroy.
Oh, and someone posted somewhere that during the Tkachuk deals, that the rebuild offer was never considered. Actually, it was considered and was the one that they were going to go with, until Florida tabled their offer - much move valuable in terms of assets. Maloney spoke about the rebuild offer being considered until the Florida offer landed.
/rant lol

Reminded me of when Borat sang his national anthem to the tune of US anthem.
