Jesus, that is terrible. One of the few hard working players we've had in the last decade.

Not trying to memorialize his career, it’s his livelihood.
I’ve had 2 concussions myself, 1 from hockey and 1 from being an idiot kid.
I can assure you that rushing back into playing only to get another one from an innocent non-head thrashing hit is very worrisome.
These injuries end many careers, lots shorter than he has.
I was simply saying he should focus on health and his young family first.

It looks like he should be done given how light that contact was and what the outcome was. Hopefully he doesn’t tough guy it back and get a worse injury

This isn't a Ferland situation. With appropriate rest Tanev will likely be able to return later this season, and the Leafs need him if they're gonna be anywhere near the playoffs.

I think it comes down to a deep discussion with his family, and with the team on if he should come back. That looked like a nothing hit, but concussions get easier to get over time, and having two not that far apart is not good.
I had 8 diagnosed concussions through my football and hockey playing career(which likely means I had a lot more), and they kept getting easier to get, Believe it or not a Calgary Puck Flag Football game a long time ago was my last concussion, and the last time I played any kind of contact sport. I took a nothing hit from a guy playing rush end and work up on the turf not understanding what anyone was saying to me, and talking nonsense. I was done.
I know its different for pro athletes, and the treatment is way better then it used to be, and the money is way more tempting. But at a certain point with the rise of CTE and PCS, it might be time to face the harsh reality for Tanev.

I hate seeing people in pain is all. But we all do dumb things to keep pushing on. He’s a beast.

Maybe it’s just me but that looked bad, especially on replay. Helmet to helmet and Tanev didn’t expect it. And him having a previous concussion, I’m not surprised at all that he was messed up by that hit.

Of course, it's difficult footage to watch but I think he will want to go out on his own terms, not retire 10 games into the season. I just don't think these two incidents are enough to force a retirement, but he will need to balance wanting to play on with quality of life once he hangs them up.

And I don’t know anything about his story but watching your kid get injured on the ice like that is devastating so I hope he is alright and isn’t a matcho idiot or feels the need to earn further.
Fata your legacy if you are dead inside because of it.
Nothing worse seeing your kid laying on the ice. Been there done that.

How do we even know it was a concussion? Do people often get stretchered off the ice solely because of a concussion? I thought it was more whiplash/neck related than anything else.
(Not being facetious btw, I don't know if stretchers are normal for concussions or not.)

Things and risks I am legally not allowed my oil well operators to do, I pay for my kid to do but worse. I sometimes think putting your kids in hockey will be seen as child abuse at some point in the future. Thankfully it’s getting skilly more.

That was the hockey version of a football no contact injury.

The rare universally loved player. Everyone in Vancouver and Calgary loved him.
The guy was a warrior, plain and simple. I loved how he played hockey.
I'll never forget the joke that was born from one of gaskal's ATLs - "Hughes is still waiting for Tanev to come back from getting smokes"

Any update from the Leafs on his status?? Hate to see this kind of stuff. Forget about hockey, first priority is that Tanev can recover to the point where he can live out the rest of his life without being burdened by concussion like symptoms.

I imagine he'll be back even though he should likely retire.
Two concussions so close together with his age and history. Not good. Toronto has lots of cash, they'll take the LTIR scenario

If he gets a concussion from that sort of contact it's time to hang it up.
