Perhaps this team is demonstrating its lack of finish and talent that was predicted last year. Perhaps this team is in a bad funk to start the season. Time will tell.

Unless this team's core leadership gets this ship righted soon they could find themselves well out of any playoff conversation by mid-November.

I have trouble seeing this team being any more than 3-9 by the end of the month and such a start could already sewer their season. Yes, the schedule gets better but it is not so improved that this team can count on rattling off 7 or 8 wins in a row to catch up to this start.
Why are the Sens an auto loss...have you seen their start?

You have an excuse for almost every single loss, that is why you were called out.

Last year the team responded to everyone saying they were a bottom five team by working hard and doing the little things for a full sixty minutes. Which is why they had such a good record of winning after leading after two periods. They did not wan to be embarrassed.

This year they had the feel of a team that thinks its a playoff team and are showing a lack of grit, determination, and work ethic in games that has cost them to be overwhelmed in the third periods. They spent the summer talking about needing one or two more points when they should have been talking about needing ten more points and then digging deep to try and get them.

Cannot replicate a teams identity year after year and this years edition does not have the work ethic or attention to details that last years team had. This is definitely looking like a bottom ten team.

Every game has been within a goal plus or minus in the third period...last year they were breaking the Flames way early, this year they aren't.

Missing Huberdeau hasn't helped, Wolf not quite up to snuff vs. last season yet. Its still early though. Takes a couple good games...they need to survive this month. Flames already have a league low in back to backs left and have played a lot of tough games.

Three of five games have been under uneven circumstances for the two teams...it is what it is.

I have seen their start. I am not saying auto loss. The Sens have played the Flames well the last few seasons. Believe me that I would like to see the Flames turn things around.

This site has Calgary with a record of 5-7-3 in the last 15 games versus the Senators (https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/cal...-last-15-games). The last two years were 1-2-1. The Flames are particularly bad in Ottawa on this list (1-5-1). So, I feel confident that it is a game the Flames may struggle to win.

They likely haven't lost to CBJ 8-4 very often either...going back 5 or 6 years record wise is pretty irrelevant

you feel confident they "may" struggle to win lol

I'm confident they might win or might not

Okay. Yes, I don't know the future. I don't think that takes away anything that I have written. They may win in Ottawa. I put that as a loss because at least to my memory - which was supported by historical results - the team has struggled in Ottawa.

The concern I have is that this very difficult schedule to start the season - of which we agree - may leave the team very far behind statistically such that it could take a very strong string of wins just to get back to even. That leaves the team without much margin for having any more slips.

Sure but having to listen to it in every single thread just makes it worse.

It's possible that the team still believes it needs to work hard to grind out wins, but that the competition has adjusted to the Flames after they surprised a lot of pundits and opponents, isn't it? Opposing teams are much less likely to to overlook the Flames this year. I mean, the Flames aren't in a vacuum here. The results probably speak to a poorer performance from the Flames lineup as well as better performances from the opposition.

Shades of grey.
