We'll see what the chemistry looks like. I think that determines what lines or pairings stay intact when people get healthy.

Especially when Huberdeau and Pospisil come back. It will be Gridin or Sharangovich.

Sharangovich over Gridin is coming next week. So hold that thought.

Those are pretty similar to all the predictions from last year. Luckily, hockey games aren't played on spreadsheets, and the Flames are tied for 1st place.

I kinda like the looks of that lineup as is.
I don't mind Parekh sitting. Pretty tough task to play on the road against the Oilers and not much you can do as a coaching staff to shelter him.
|
Honzek and either Gridin or Miromanov. Gridin would be the easy choice but if it’s based on merit then Gridin may stay in.

I wasn't getting personal. Just really tired of every year before the season starts the media and a portion of our fan base has to take a big ol' dump on the team.

Why do we care what people who know very little about hockey think about the Flames?

If that’s the case, he’d fit right in with the rest of the D-Core.
They haven’t faired well either.

Edmonton hasn't won the conference or division since getting McDavid and their roster is worse this year.
But ok, just keep pounding your big round oilers buttons.

It just gets old. The team hasn't even played a game yet and already the pissing on the team starts. I get it from the Canadian media because they love their Oilers but they also predicted the Flames to be hot garbage last year and how did that turn out? Can we please be allowed to have some damn optimism? If the roster is as garbage as some of our fan base believes then they will have plenty of time after the season has started to wave the room and gloom flags.

It strikes me that this team needs to be evaluated according to their play last season. It was a 96 point team last season. That is the standard they set after losing a lot of players. So, the team needs to determine if they are better or worse than that standard. That is the starting point and I think Huska is correct on that. Teams, not pundits, will know that they need to outwork the Flames. We get to finally start seeing how this plays out starting Wednesday.

Parekh sitting makes sense even though I selfishly want to see him out there. They would target him with last change and it's setting him up for failure. He also is still coming back from an injury, let him get some more practices in and start him at home. Maybe he gets in for the game in Van.
Low expectations but lots of optimism that they are heading in the right direction. Maybe they overachieve this year or maybe they get a lottery pick. Either way there is reasons to be excited for puck drop. Year 2 Wolf should be even better and lots of guys who have a point to prove mixed in with some youthful skill. It could be much worse

Ya no issue with Parekh sitting a game or two.
I'm guessing the first line will be a blender for a few weeks.
We'll have some patches where we struggle to score consistently but this is not a bottom feeder team. Play like they did at the end of last year and they can beat anyone

The roster is getting clogged with middle 6 LHed guys.
Hopefully trade Coleman to free up space as I don't know who else would make sense to trade. No one will take Sharangovich off our hands.

I expect that Parekh will go back to junior after 9 games and they have them scheduled out for maximum time around the big club? Obviously, you hope that he makes that a difficult decision to make.

I just don't see value for his development going back to junior. Where he struggles right now is adjusting to the lack of time he has with the puck. In the NHL they're on you much faster and you need tight decision making and D to be second nature. Going back to play against people worse than him, he'd just rover around and be unstructured. We need him up here, learning, practicing, seeing how Weegar plays, what it takes to be a pro. If that means he doens't get in every game, I still think it's 10000x better than going back to the O.

There's 100% chance he doesn't go back to junior.
