I'll be honest, if it is 2-3 year's the prognosis long term is probably not good but it gives EDM a small window to win

It’s more fun if they keep losing with him rather than lose him.

Is it though? I get he said that McDavid would leave this season, but signing a very short-term deal just further proves McDavid is not sold on being with Edmonton long term and does want to leave eventually.

This deal satisfies both parties.

Aging core, no depth, no goaltending. All McDavid is doing is solidifying he probably won't win a cup in his career.

I think the Draisaitl long term extension put a wrinkle in that along with another finals. If they bow out in round 1 to the kings last year I bet he walks

Let’s be honest, the odds he was leaving was <1%. Best we can hope for is a short term deal at an astronomical AAV.

Being a flames fan has sucked a lot. Hopefully they keep losing. Only silver lining I can see is that Draisaitl is turning 30 this year and McDavid is gonna be 29 so we probably only have to endure 4 or 5 more years max in this window for them, but it's basically made it #### being a flames fan for a decade already because they got rewarded insanely richly for sucking
