Pardon the cliche, but Matvei Gridin looks like a completely different player than he did a year ago.
That’s said about a lot of players at NHL training camps, but it’s especially true of the 19-year-old. He’s bigger and stronger, yes, but a year spent putting up big points in the QMJHL seems to have catapulted his game to a new level.
Through two days of Calgary Flames prospects camp, he might just be the standout.
“Just his habits are so much better,” said Calgary Wranglers head coach Brett Sutter, who is overseeing the Flames’ prospects camp this week.
“Stopping, starting, doing all those pro-style details, they’ve been incredible. He had a good day of (fitness) testing, he’s in shape, he looks good.”

Before diving into lines for the game, who is NOT available?
Parekh, Reschny, Potter, Mews?, Stockselius, Wyttenbach, Hoskin?, Jamieson?

Oilers were one of the oldest and slowest teams, lost depth, lost toughness, didn't improve the worst G situation in the league, took a step back in coaching, have a bottom tier prospect pool and don't even have their 1st next year. Not to mention UFA's coming up in McDavid, Ekholm, Walman...
Why wouldn't Connnor want to stick around in that hell hole city????

Edmonton fans must have been so excited when they heard the Oilers acquired Hutson and Lafreniere.

I think i read somewhere that the Stefan in the Oilers lineup is the son of former first overall Patrik Stefan, best known for missing the empty net that one time. I'm too lazy to fact check.

Lafrenière? That’s like getting another 1st overall. Krebs? Dude got traded for Eichel. Von Richter, like one of the best goalies of all time.

Rookie tournament games are usually just won by the older, more experienced team. Not sure how tonight stacks up. There’s a big difference between the latest first round pick and a guy who would dream of being Kevin Rooney when one is 19 and the other is 24.

Yup, the results of this really don't matter that much but it doesn't change the fact that this group of Oilers prospects is a whole bunch of yuck
