I remember how he and his brother Dave would come out to centre ice and shake hands after the game was over.

Ah yes...it must have sucked to be the 'less talented Dryden Brother.'

If the Calgary Flames had been around at the time, oh we'd have signed him!

Instead he went to the Oilers.

Dave created the modern goalie mask. He did very well in his post hockey life.

I have no doubt everyone can hear in their heads the voice of the great Danny Gallivan:

“And a scintillating save by Dryden!”

The image of 29 leaning on his stick is as “Canadian” as it gets.

The puck spent a lot of the in the Canadiens’ offensive zone in those days. Lots of time to lean on his stick.

At 6 feet, 4 inches, Dryden was so tall that during stoppages in play he struck what became his trademark pose: leaning upon his stick. He was known as the "four-storey goalie," and was once referred to as "that thieving giraffe" by Boston Bruins superstar Phil Esposito, in reference to Dryden's skill and height.

Wow, this is sad news.

I agree 100% about The Game being the best hockey book ever - so much so that it has made every other hockey book unreadable for me because the bar is so high, none of them get remotely close to it.

Anyone that hasn't read it should do so.

The Game is the best book ever written about hockey and maybe sports (Ball Four by Jim Bouton maybe…). Ken autographed mine 29 years ago. He loved that it was dog eared and well loved. I still remember the sadness of when he retired. 6 Cups in 8 full seasons. Ridiculous stats.

Say hi to Dad, Ken. You were the best.

I don't suppose if anyone knows the name of that? it was shot like NFL films. Pretty impressive back then.

How the game has changed!

Dryden retired after 8 years and 6 cups (4 straight cups) to make more money as a lawyer

Exceptional athlete and person. What I find the most striking about him looking back is how he always knew even at a really young age that while sport was important for people as a diversion and escape it was fairly trivial in the big picture, even while absolutely killing it on the ice. Guy regularly had a save percentage at or over 920 even while wearing pads that were about half the width of the modern goalie
