I bet Basha, Brzustewicz and Honzek are going to have a very strong training camp. They're in the top 10 though.

That's why Poirier is my darkhorse pick to make the team.

Poirier is a nice pick. He finished 11th in defender scoring in the AHL last year, and of the 10 in front of him only Luca Cagnoni and Tristan Luneau are younger. There were other guys that scored at a better PPG pace, but Poirier's season was pretty decent for a 22 year old.

Definitely more there than him being Calgary's 20th ranked prospect would suggest.

My vote is Wyttenbach, although I dont think he cracks the roster this year I think he will be the biggest mover between this year and next year's prospect ranking.

Poirier also started off really slow as well. He really improved as the season went on. I would bet that Poirier makes the team this year as he would be a natural compliment to Pachal as well - a puck-mover + a physical defensive defencemen. I suspect he will probably be part of the rotation at least including Solovyov and Kuznetsov.

By definition, nominating a player for this award should automatically disqualify him.

Where exactly in the lineup do you see Stromgren playing? More or less likely than Honzek getting minutes?

We have too many LWs already signed in the NHL. IMO we need a bunch of injuries or trades for Stromgren to get a chance at NHL games this year.

That's the point of this thread... There's no obvious spot for King/Bell/Stromgren/Poirier/Ciona etc., so they'll have to exceed expectations and/or the team will have to run into a bunch of injuries/trades for them to play.

Enoch is also right, and Stromgren acknowledged it on his exit last season, that he needs to take a big step this year and play some NHL games or he'll likely get buried on the depth chart with all of the younger wingers coming in over the next two years.

1: King/ Ciona vs Stromgren vs Porier vs Bell are all very different players and fill different roles on the team.
2: Stromgren is a top 9 player. So we need an injury to a top 9 player or a trade to figure him in. BUT he's also competing for that spot with guys like Pospisil (or Zary, or Klapka, or maybe Farabee, or Kerins, or Honzek!) who's probably on the bottom line, and would move into the top 9 so a guy like Kirland or Clark Bishop or Sam Morton can be activated on the 4th line instead.

Can anyone at all explain to me why Bell is being brought up here? Did nobody watch the Wranglers last season?

Unless we trade 3 forwards, I highly doubt Stromgren gets more than 5 nhl games this season and I think that's a generous estimate.

Remind me what you thought of Jooris the year prior to him making the NHL?

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Poirier might have the best shot at it, assuming Andersson is traded.
