The cap is going to rise so significantly over the course of the deal (barring another COVID or something) that he'd have to fall off a cliff for it not to. That's why the "best" contracts are generally the ones with the most term - the "surplus value" increases due to inflation of the cap. Being underpaid by $2.5M now is going to very quickly be the equivalent of $4M, and then up and up as time goes on.
It also helps the relative value of current long term contracts that under the next CBA you won't be able to sign an 8 year deal anymore.
