This summer i processed a trade from Carolina for cap this year from a condition from a trade last year.


Last summer, I processed 3 deals for sure. Tampa was one, Carolina again maybe and I forget the other, all from conditions from trades the previous year. Other teams have done this as well as I noticed numerous when earning the special conditions just a few weeks ago here too.

I'll happily move to 2 trades for each cap/future cap and no conditions from now on, but this has never been communicated as how's it's supposed to be done in my tenure. Glad me have it written down though.

He did break a rule. You aren't allowed to trade more than 18M in cap in any year.

I guess the more I think about it, the 18M cheese rule has been set in stone. Every team should work within those constraints.

I certainly don't think the Leafs were being malicious or trying to create an unfair advantage - it was a honest mistake. I don't think it would be difficult to get ~1M next year in the next 24 hours.

It did it to me after Batch 1 and then to NJ recently.
