The Panthers have $4.9MM in space so this would put them over with only 19 out of 23 roster spots filled. They got some work to do.

He’ll be sipping Mai Tais on Robidas island long before the back half of that deal becomes a problem.

The CBA needs to address the tax differences and make it a melting pot where everyone is paid by the NHL based on New York taxes instead of the local teams.

When is the last time a played to that age, and is there a cap penalty if he retires before then?
Chara was the least to play at 43 or older.

52 years, 11 days – Gordie Howe (1980)
48 years, 71 days – Chris Chelios (2010)
45 years, 319 days – Jaromir Jagr (2017)
45 years, 42 days – Zdeno Chara (2022)
44 years, 100 days – Doug Harvey (1969)
44 years, 39 days – Tim Horton (1974)
43 years, 317 days – Teemu Selanne (2014)
43 years, 277 days – Claude Lemieux (2009)
43 years, 134 days – Mark Recchi (2011)
43 years, 129 days – Igor Larionov (2004)
43 years, 73 days – Mark Messier (2004)
43 years, 35 days – Allan Stanley (1969)

Thornton made it to within days of being 43. Gary Roberts also came close.

Cap circumvention if I've ever seen it. Akin to the Kovalchuk contract. How can anyone expect him to fulfill it? So dumb.

Marchand is held together by duct tape already, LTIRing him isn't going to be a problem.

needed an insane discount by Ekblad and a fishy retirement deal for Marchand to make it happen, but still have to hand it to Zito. I thought they'd have a snowball's chance in hell to retain all of Bennett, Marchand and Ekblad, but here we are. Not bad.

Another Cup is likely, provided that Bobrovsky keeps playing well.

Well, Flames aren't there yet to make it to the finals, so if having a team like the Panthers be likely finalists each year in case the Oilers get lucky again next season and make it there, it's fine by me

Pretty smart by Zito to lock his core up through 2030. Players will be lining up to sign there as UFAs.

2028 Corey Perry, after being in the finals for the 8th time in the last 9 years.

I think that's 11 HOFers and Claude Lemieux

Giving 6 years to a 37 year old is odd but hey, he showed he still has it in the playoffs. Like it's already been said he's likely gonna be on the LTIR for the last few years of the contract
