Completely different type of player, but with similar offensive numbers at age 24. Better defensively than Zadorov. Less of a big hitter but way fewer PMs. The cap has gone way up.

I actually find Bahl's offensive game slightly underrated and there's a higher (but still limited) ceiling there. We're never going to confuse him Makar, but I could see steady 25-35 point seasons with his skating and above average passing ability... kind of like Forsling.

Steinberg kept pushing Bahl for 5-6 longterm back when Pachal was signed and whenever Steinberg does that, those things usually end up happening.

$6M x 8 or $5M x 6
Offer him either and let him choose.

Those are some interesting comparisons I don't think he's similar to Regehr, Tanev or Zadorov except for his size. He has a good stick, and gap, he's good at clearing the front of the net, better than Z. He's a big boy, but he doesn't look for big hits and fights. His skating is good for a big man, but his offense is non-existent. I would probably compare him to Tyler Myers for now.
I think his defensive game still has room to grow, and I would be interested in watching him play with a guy like Parekh.

I can definitely see him being these Flames' version of Regehr. Reggie needed 3-4 years to round out his defensive game but once he did that, he was an absolute beast. I think it was Playfair that worked with the d group back in those days? I know Huska is the Head Coach but he has a reputation for helping young defencemen round out their games too.

This is what feels right.
If there’s one thing he could seriously improve is his shot. I would think that’s something doable with his size and athleticism.

The guy has more untapped potential. The injury was a bit of a fluke concussion.
His offensive production may never be worth much as people are alluding to. His defensive game is what will keep him in a top 4 role and perhaps a top two role.
I’d like to see him be more physical. However if he’s not hurting you with poorly timed physical play that leads to penalties he’s valuable.
How valuable? I’d go short term. Let him prove his worth. What are his comparables? Oleksiak? Cernak? Barf nurse? He will never put up a season of point production like nurse did playing with mcdavid. Who else? With his offensive production I doubt his comparables are getting paid more thank Rasmus’ current deal.
I think he takes a short term offer and Connie offers 3 at 3.75 - 4 or something.

I think there is a bit more offensively to tap. He'll never be a double digit goal or 40 point guy. But he can handle the puck, moves it reasonably well, and moves well for his size. So he could be a 25 -30 point guy. Which is decent for a guy not getting a lot of PP time.
On one hand the more one dimensional guys do have limits in their value. So if you go short and his offence is stagnant and he doesn't become an intimidating presence. Maybe his salary would be the same or close to a longer term deal now.

Why would the Flames walk him straight to UFA? They know what he is at this point, so the offer should be for as long as possible.

AFPAnalytics projection is 4 years at $2.9m. They are usually pretty on the mark…though I feel like that could be a bit low.

Because I don’t think his potential is elite in any respect. I would be hesitant to overpay for underwhelming production to buy out a couple of his FA years.

3.5 for 4 would be ideal imo. What has he done to warrant 5+ million?

Agree with this post so much I need to thank and quote it. You nailed it with these offers in my opinion
3rd option $5.5 x 7

Five to seven years at $4.0-$5.0 seems right to me. I could see
5y x $4.0
6y x $4.5
7y x $5.0
The player is going to be enticed as much as the team. With one contract and after one good season, he would be set for life...

6 is way too much imo for a player lacking offensive abilities. Nothing more than 5.
