Good move choosing Otter over a coach who thought playing contact-free hockey against the Oilers was going to be effective.
As a Flames fan I took Dallas' two miserable WCF showings personally. And the first one was better even though it wasn't even close.

Dallas had a good roster, but looked mostly to be playing either how you'd expect or worse.

You don’t need a big name hire to get over the hump. I don’t think Dallas has the team to take the next strap but plenty of examples. Sullivan and Bylsma in Pittsburgh. Knoblauch in Edmonton. Bérubé in St. Louis. Bednar in Colorado.

And they just waited until all vacancies were filled too. I don’t think that was an accident.

Anyone who loses a series to Edmonton should fire the coach, set a precedent.

He got more out of that collection of losers than most would. But his line about not hitting because they aren't built for that and throwing Otter under the bus sealed it.

Worst goalie pull of all time? Not only the early nature and the fact it was basically two breakaways, but he calls a timeout and then pulls him at the tail end of the timeout as if it's an afterthought. What an idiot

I only watched a few minute of the second and third but I would have probably put him back in to start the second. Maybe if DeSmith would have been stoning the Oilers and Dallas was gaining momentum from it I would have tried to not mess with a good thing but he let in a goal himself.
The McDavid goal wasn't bad but I would have had more confidence in Ottinger finding a way to stop it than DeSmith. I knew the only way that wasn't going in was if it missed the net.

It's up there with Glue Gun pulling Elliott in Game 4. If the guy is on that short of a leash, start Johnson.

DeSmith is to blame for the 3rd goal..he poked the puck right into the slot

Even more of a reason to go back to Ottinger then.
What I would have did after pulling him was to tell him I was trying to wake the team up and to be ready because he might be going back in.
I don't know what he said to him if anything but if he did, based on his post game comments it probably wasn't that.

I can kind of see the argument of "yes, those were hard shots to save, but that's why we pay you so much ####ing money!" but DeSmith was certainly no better.
