Shanny is widely seen as the problem. He is a megalomaniac. Keefe had zero power there. He green lighted the overpayment and capitulation to marner and Matthew’s.

That'd be a demotion from his position with the Leafs for Shanahan thou... plus he'd probably want to bring in his own guy to be GM and I don't want to lose Conroy or put him on a shorter leash at this time.
Plus I still don't really know what the heck Maloney actually does (like on a day to day basis).

The Athletic is reporting that Shanahan has no interested in the Islander job if he couldn't hire the GM, and since they are hiring Darche, that probably means he won't be going there.

Can someone explain why Marner is the bad guy? Matthew's playoff performance is just as bad and he doesn't exactly provide the defensive acumen of a truly elite C. Nylander was also a huge whipping boy for them before he stepped up in a contract year. D-core is still a joke and the goaltending is unstable. Seems like there should be bigger scapegoats than the #1 RW. 63 points in 70 playoff games for Marner. 59 in 68 for Matthew's, 58 in 67 for Nylander.

Lots of blame to go around, but in I believe 20 Games 5,6,7, Marner has 0 goals and 7 assists, so history of not stepping up in the critical games at least in the playoffs. Matthews has had his struggles but he actually is very good defensively, and I believe the advanced stats showed that this playoffs as well.

Thanks, I don't watch the leafs a ton, but anytime I have, Matthew's stood out as very slow and unengaged without the puck. Curious what his and Nylanders stats are in games 5,6,7.

Unless you are inferring that a job with the Leafs is greater than a job with the Flames, then no - it would a lateral move. Maloney is the President of the Calgary Flames, just as Shanahan was President of the Maple Leafs.
I think perhaps you are confusing it with the President of Calgary Sports and Entertainment - Robert Hayes? He oversees the Flames, as well as all the others - Hitmen, Wranglers, Stampeders, Roughnecks. Shanahan only looked after the Leafs and, I assume, the Marlies.

Cool. Let's raid the cabinet. Those draft picks must be burning a hole in his pocket by now.

Leafs have draft picks? That doesn't sound like them.

Not first rounders, he blew those already
Toronto has 6 of their expected 12 draft picks in the first 4 rounds of the next 3 years
0 firsts, 2 seconds, 3 thirds and a 4th

Been lots of chatter today in Tronna after Tre had his end of season address to the media out here (Tre was in Calgary at his daughter's graduation when Pelley addressed the media earlier).
I plan to watch the whole thing at some point, but did catch various sound bites. At one point today, Tre said, "there's some DNA that needs to change", when talking about Toronto's results in the playoffs over the last number of years, which was later discussed by Kypreos, Bourne and McKee.

It was posted in the other thread that the Leafs are going to be hard-in on Bennet, which is a big change if Tavares doesnt come back.

IMHO, I'm not sure Bennett would want to play in Toronto unless Toronto throw $12M at him.
