We have the Rav4 Prime, and are basically at the cusp of the range for our daily commute. In winter, the range goes down a bit but not much, however if you want heat in the car, it'll automatically switch over to the ICE engine. So far for spring we haven't used any gas. Our electricity bill however jumped by ~300kWh as we're driving every day. I might take the charger to work, but I was hesitant cause it's kind of expensive thing to leave unattended.

Does it not lock in place when the car is locked?
My EV charger does.

It locks to the charging port while the car is locked, but I was more worried about someone messing with it.

Is it even noticeable on your bills? I know its HP x .744 = kW * $50 MWhr. I know with my phone or every other thing with a battery I start losing my mind when the battery starts getting crappy. Does that ever get annoying,

I don’t even notice it on the bill. I mean really, the electricity costs fluctuate enough anyway, that these charges just blend in. I feel like the first month I had the PHEV the cost was about $15.

Just replaced a 2011 Highlander for a 2023 Highlander Hybrid.
Would expect improvements in 12 years of course (and going from fully ICE to Hybrid), but the new fuel tank is smaller and gets a good 250-300km more per tank.
Nice vehicle - no complaints so far

My wife has a new Hyundai Tucson PHEV - she can eke out 55km on a charge, more than enough to cover her day to day driving. I like the vehicle, Hyundai has come a long long way in putting out a good product. I would take this vehicle over any of the 'Big 3' offerings any day of the week....the PHEV's are only made in Korea, so I suspect that they have better build quality than the ones made south of the border.

I have a 24 Ford Maverick hybrid. Loves small roads, less so highway. Likes hot, less so cold (heat is electric). I have been tracking fuel economy on every mile since I bought it. I hate L/100km, but results
Best tank: 4.56L/100km
Worst rank: 6.50L/100km
On all 18000miles/29000km driven 5.20L/100km (45.20 USMPG/54.26IMPG)
Love this little truck.
Edit to add: I think the Maverick uses the same hybrid drive train as the Escape

We've had it for a couple of years now, and like it. The battery gets us 40-50km of range on a charge, which easily covers our daily commute. From the spring through the fall, we can often go weeks without really using fuel. The gas engine certainly gets more use in the winter since it is required for generating heat.
No real complaints thus far!

Another Outlander PHEV owner here who also couldn't wait for a RAV4 Prime. Loving the Outlander, much nicer interior and quiet due to triple pane glass. The transition from EV to ICE is undetectable, smoother than my wife's Prius Hybrid. We get 70km on battery here in Vancouver, year round.

The waiting list for Toyota stock is a problem. We didn’t even look at Toyota Rav 4s because we needed a car right away and Honda always has stock. However, Toyota does seem to be king with hybrid tech.

I'm not sure it's possible to get a more practical new vehicle for the price than a Civic hybrid hatch. Very good use of space, reasonably nice cabin, all the tech you'd want, most buttons and switches are still physical, and the fuel efficiency is bonkers.
If I wanted something a bit bigger / more luxurious I would get the Crown Signia.

Very happy with out RAV4 hybrid, but have not looked at the numbers.
If you go Toyota check out Edmonton North dealer. Bought it over the phone for $2000 less than any Calgary dealership. Apparently they have the second highest volume in North America.

I have a PHEV Outlander. I fill up once a month. Add $40/mth for electricity. So around $100/mth for going around.
Looking back, I'd go full electric.

Did a good detailing get rid of the Mulletville stench?

Arguably the best compact car you can buy right now.

Yup... It's to a point where the Accord is essentially superfluous in their lineup. Like I don't understand why someone would buy one of those. Save your money.
The only downside I can see is the CVT (both from a longevity perspective and a "boooo CVT" perspective) but that's the tradeoff for getting a hybrid and it's kind of the same across the industry.

I don’t see any details about the original poster’s daily commute or potential charging set up at home. I went fully electric in 2018 and am able to charge in my own garage and could not be happier. Added solar panels last year and it is glorious. Unless there’s some unique reason that would make a hybrid necessary, I would consider going fully electric and skipping the hassle of gas redundancy.

We were looking at the GLC350e. It gets over 80km of range, which is awesome. It was our favorite out of all of the ones we tried. We ended up with another full electric though.
My neighbour got the new Toyota Tundra hybrid and has nothing but problems. It's been towed 3 times back to Toyota. He's a Toyota guy, and hates this truck.

Daily commute is about 45-60 minutes to and from work 3-4 days a week. I didn't think about a plug-in Hybrid until I saw some replies in this thread. That might be the way to go.

I live in a Townhouse, and a neighbor mentioned they had no luck getting a EV fast charger installed. I'll have to look into that a bit more on my end.

If you're essentially never taking the car beyond its electric range an electric can make sense, but IMO a gas-based engine is way more convenient because it's just... a car. It just uses less gas. If you want to drive to the interior, or Montana, or wherever, you don't have to think about it.
