Why? Why would they offer him so much? Why would other teams be desperate to have him? This is a guy who's been an NHL headcoach for 9 total seasons and only made the playoffs twice.

I have never and will never understand the respect or mythos held for staff from the phoenix coyotes... Maloney, Treliving, Tocchet, they're all losers. They don't know how to win, they never have. Why are brinks trucks being backed up for these guys?

Old boys club, Through and through.

Tocchet is not capable of adapting to the modern NHL, full stop.

Lots of weird decisions in the last 18 months in that organization.

2 seasons...I do wonder if there would be discussions around Hischier for Hughes in the offseason - captain for captain.
If NJ thinks they can extend Hischier I am not sure why they would trade him. They can get Hughes for free in 2 seasons most likely.

Does this still count towards the Jack Adams curse?

Crazy the year they have had. I’m not sure what I would do if I was the GM.

Even if they believed Highes would re-sign there, at this point it doesn’t look like they will be competitive for a while. I would be tempted to try and trade Hughes, Patterson and Demko for a tonne of assets.

Hughes to NJ for Nemec and Siegenthaler.
Demko to the Oilers for a 1st (2027??) and a prospect (do they have any?)
Pettersson to Cgy for Zary and Honzek.
Try to tank the next two years and grab a franchise player.

Hughes saying he's the best coach he's had tells me he's a good coach as I'm going to guess Hughes knows what he's talking about.

This is giving Savard/Gilbert a run for its money.

Is that really true? In Tocchet’s first full season as coach, Hughes, Miller, Boeser, and Hronek all had career years offensively, Petterson had 89 points, and the Canucks finished 7th in the league in goals for.

The biggest reason for the Canucks’ decline is Demko playing 23 games this season vs 51 games played in 2023-24. And of course Petterson’s flakiness. He’s a coach-killer, and he’ll continue to be a coach-killer for whoever takes over from Tocchet.

It took half his first season to wean the team off Boudreau's system to implement his system as you would see that the scoring for Miller, Petterson, etc all dropped off in the 2nd half of the season as he reigned things in. I actually had Miller and Hronek in my fantasy pool last year and saw their amazing first half of the season totally taper off by end of the year. If you don't believe me just ask Canucks fans as they can confirm. He wants to win games 2-1.

Why would they sell off their best players to their 2 biggest divisional rivals? That makes zero sense.

Rivals how? Vancouver will be at the bottom of the division.
They should be attempting to get the most value for their assets, within their division or otherwise.
