So it's been 8 years. Why does it seem certain refs hold a grudge

Ya didn't look intentional, but man oh man, we could have witnessed the official die on that play. Very "lucky" to have run into the boards like he did. Hopefully he can make a full recovery.

My take is wideman was concussed prior to the collision

I'd never heard myself thatWideman had "anger issues" and no one seemed to say so at the time. My intepretation was always he was skating to the bench and while the linesman should have been in his line of sight, he wasn't focused (maybe concussed as you say). And at the last second he sees something in front of him and puts his hands up.
I've seen people walk into poles and it looks similar.

I'm waiting on news that Flames Special Advisor to the GM, Jarome Iginla, is suspended 20 games for beating up the NHL's Video Review Crew.

Iggy needs a cooler job title. I'd opt for 'The Klapka Whisperer' for now.

This was waaaay worse than Wideman’s play. He bumped into a ref at extremely low speed. This guy hurled that ref into the boards like he was trying to kill him.
Ultimately they’re both accidental but that end boards collision is way, way more dangerous than a bump from behind into open ice.

Very much agree to disagree. Wideman was more "get the f*** outta my way", whereas this was Beckman *immediately* feeling remorse knowing he messed up.
Doesn't compare at all to Wideman imo, concussion or not.
And to say it's more dangerous.. honestly not sure about the linesman/ref in this instance, but Wideman ended a career, whether he was gonna retire or not

Unless those mistakes are made by their own officials.

Wideman’s was more “brain disconnected.”
You can’t compare someone who had just suffered a hit to the head with someone who just didn’t bother to see who he was hitting. It doesn’t really matter if Beckman was more remorseful than a guy whose brain just finished slapping the sides of his skull, you’d hope he was, and you’d hope he was remorseful because he hit him at all, and not because he hit him harder than he meant to.

Looked very much like Beckman thought it was an opposition player followed immediately by realization of his mistake.
Wideman full on ended a career, skated to the bench and acted like nothing happened, concussion or not.
Just no way this play is worse than Wideman's imo. At best can argue they were the same level

No it’s objectively worse in every possible way. Both clearly didn’t know who they were hitting. But one bumped into a ref from behind while barely moving. The other smashed a guy into the boards like a ragdoll.
Just because this dude apologized quicker doesn’t make it less bad. If wideman had obliterated the linesman he probably would have too. But the linesman was fine and wideman was the one who was injured so he just went back to the bench.
