Habs GM just said in the intermission that they hope Demidov gets to play a regular season game or two if they make playoffs.

as expected, SKA releases Alexander Nikishin as well. Reportedly, he will sign a 2 year deal with the Canes

So is SKA out of money that they're letting all these guys go? They also terminated Kuznetsov's contract as well with 3 years remaining on it.

Interesting stuff form Friedman this morning on the new Pod realted to Demidov
- Habs didn't know if Demidov would fall to them
- The keys were CBJ taking Lindstrom and Anaheim taking Senneke (Friedman speculates that if Anaheim took Demidov instead, Montreal may have taken Senneke)
- Chicago offered their unprotected 2025 1st to Montreal, in theory to get Demidov (they should have taken him at 2).
- Montreal was also in talks with Anaheim to acquire Zegras for a young dman and 1st (not the high 1st but the one they eventually used to take Hague)
- When Demidov fell to them, they backed out of the deal because they saw Zegras and Demidov being somewhat redundant to each other.

Love hearing this stuff.

And Chicago's pick could very well be 1st overall this year. Wow, that would have been something, and Demidov wouldn't have even been there this season to change their fortunes.

That's a what-if that could take a loooooong time to answer.

Firstly, I expect Chicago wouldn't have minded that much if they ended up with Demidov anyway.

And secondly, query whether Chicago would have tried harder to not tank so much if they didn't have their pick this year.

Chicago clearly wanted the RH dman who looks like a long term #1 dman very badly, enough to pass on Demidov. But they were clearly

conflicted on it.

But their pick isn't very likely to be #1, that's more of a long shot. 13.5%

It's more likely to be 3 or 4 than 1 or 2. 72.4 % of being one of those. 14.1% of being #2.

I think the rumour was they were willing to offer it unprotected.

They wanted to try to accelerate things by adding two top 5 talents in the same year instead of waiting an extra year for development.

And it probably would have been a fair deal still.

Demidov vs Schaefer / Misa is close either way.

Dodged a bullet as Zegras looks pretty ordinary.

Why would Montreal accept if there was any protection on it? I beleive they didnt accept without any protection. Demidov looks like he should have gone 2nd last year and may be better then any player in this seasons draft.

He isn't ordinary. He just being shackled in Anaheim and he hates the GM and that coach. They are trying to make an elite skill player into a two way 3rd line player. He also wants to play centre and they keep him on the wing. If you can get him to commit long term Zegras is exactly the type of player we should be after. At least until I remember who our coach is and then it doesn't matter does it? He will just be as neutered here as he is in Anaheim. You put him somewhere where he is allowed to be what he is and he is a 1st line talent all day.
