From what I was told, Craig never fully made him available so no bidding war really came into play.
He did get inquiries by the dozen and a few lowball offers to test the waters but that’s about it.

Craig must have felt he was worth keeping for this season. Lots of intangibles like what message trading him would send for a playoff hungry team. Or perhaps he's a glue kind of guy in the room and Craig thinks he will find his mojo in the future. Rasmus has a good body of work and shouldn't be given up on after 5.5 months of sub par performance imo.
Perhaps Craig thinks he can get more out of Rasmus in the summer as well.
Also, I hate it when we sell low...may as well keep em at this point

Off season will have peak value. GMs will forget how ####ty he was. He has a name and that will draw a lot of interest. But he looks checked out on the ice. Which is wild when they are in a playoff spot.
Just my opinion.

A poster made a post yesterday that I feel applies also to Andersson though they didn't include him as an example. He faces top lines a lot of the time and gets no credit for the games where the Flames win a close game, keeping the other team to 2 or less, but gets ripped any time he makes a mistake trying to defend MacKinnon, Matthews or some other star.

How often have we heard fans claim a player gave up on the team? Kadri gets it a tonne and I'm not sure what quantifies that other than being a historically high risk / high reward player.
Backlund is another who's been called lazy despite being a player who has propped up his linemates for much of his career, as the top shutdown forward, often playing through injuries. Monahan got dragged through the mud despite often playing through multiple injuries as well.
And if you're a defenceman that plays a lot of tough minutes? Better not make many mistakes or you'll get eaten alive by the fans.

I wonder if there’s an injury or something affecting his play? He was awesome at the beginning of the year.

Should have traded him last deadline, this past off-season, this past deadline.. so my vote goes to this upcoming off-season.
For the record, I love Andersson. Yes, he isn't having a great season so far, but it happens. I am sure he will rebound. I just think that the Flames need to do more 'rebuilding' and less 'long term signings'. That's where I have been at for a while. I 100% think his lack of production is a blip on the radar, and he is tasked with being the 'shutdown pair'. His blocked shots has probably increased dramatically (guessing here), and I do think he is still growing different attributes in his game. His offence will return, I have no doubt. I just think the right move long term is to move on. If the Flames were a 'win now' team over the next few years, I would argue that the smart move would be to keep him.
I will say this, however: Any devaluation of him as an asset from this past off-season to this coming off-season was worth the Tom Wilson incident. It is not that often I laugh that hard while watching a game. That was memorable stuff! He must be one of the best trash talkers in the entire NHL. I actually really love him. I just think this team needs to continue getting younger and avoid signing long-term retirement deals.

I don't understand what are you seeing. I don't see anything that tells me the guy doesn't care or is checked out. What are you basing this on?
How do you even evaluate that?
To me i see a guy that is slotted wrong, and is therefore exposing the weaknesses in his game. And I see a guy that tries to do too much, and puts himself into trouble as a result.
I don't see a guy that is checked out at all.

He doesn't cry when the other team scores. If he truly cared, he would.

Systems have made it hard for not just Raz but Weegar as well.
Weegars had a foot issue all year. Raz is victim to Huskas zone defense and also his over usage due to our other horrid D
Bahl is a machine. Hes easily our best D man right now and he isn't even done yet . Hes only going to get better.
We get ao attached to certain players though too. Raz shelf life under this system and trying to do it all himself ....its too much. Love the guy for trying. Hate that someone had to bring up fat and unfit because that changed a long time ago.

The market rate for defensemen of Andersson's caliber is in the ballpark of $6.5-7.5M. If Andersson wants to stay, sign him for a similar deal as Hanifin's current contract or better and trade him in a couple years if he declines or wants out.
Andersson's game has never been about speed and his contract should age well unless he gets complacent.

I think Flames fans are going to be underwhelmed with the return for him if he is traded in the summer.

I love Ras, but with a nickname like Fatmus Sandwichson, I would be upset if someone didn't call him fat. Best name in sports.

Considering the Hanifin return was weak Id be happy with anything equal or better.

I hope Ras is traded at the draft so that we can get hold of another 1st round pick +, especially IF we end up in worst case scenario territory of missing the playoffs and giving our pick to Montreal.
I'm concerned like others that his value is likely going down with this very pedestrian season he's having, but there's still lots of reasons for Flames fans to be positive about the return:
- Ras will have another year on his contract at a VERY good cap hit
- Flames could retain half and make it even better
- Ras is a Right-Hand Shot, which seems to garner more value than LHD these days
- Name value, he's considered a top-4 Defensemen league-wide and when he's at his best, plays with a bit of edge and swagger
