I doubt they have to with gaining so little from Florida. They got some wiggle room from Tkachuk LTIRed.
No they don't. They've retained on Burns, Hertl, and Karlsson.

Well this is the first I'm hearing about this. Why didn't they bring me in on this conversation?

We said that last year too.... so far, we've taken on Farabee's 5MM deal (3 more years) so we can have Frost for a 2nd is how I see it.

Remember, until the last two games he played, Vladar has had a poor year and a mediocre career.

Teams don't change their mind on a players skillset based on a few games, they look at a larger sample size.

Plus, I doubt that Conroy wants to move Vladar as long as Calgary remains in contention, which they clearly are. Absent a return he simply cannot turn down.

That's brutal for a rebuilding team as bad as San Jose is to not have any retention slots left. Looks like Burns comes off the books after this season but then they still have 2 years left of Karlsson after this season and 3 years left of Hertl.

It’s not bad at all. Retention spots only have value if you use them, and they got value out of them by using them.

Keeping them open holds no value.

And that's exactly why the Flames should not trade any long-term contracts with salary retained.

Best to have them available to use, and use them when it can benefit the team. Not using them is not ideal in the Flames' situation, but not having them available to use would significantly reduce the Flames' potential number of trade partners and possible deals.

Sorry, I meant price as in acquisition cost, as it sounds like Calgary wants a 2nd for Vladar.

Ouch. At least Burns expires this year. Karlsson will have another 2 seasons, and Hertl 3 after this one.

Vladar to Carolina would make the most sense IMO.

The San Jose Sharks are brutal. Vanecek is likely still a capable backup, away from the tire fire that is San Jose.

Vladar remaining a Flame is likely what makes the most sense. The Flames are likely sending their 1st to Montreal. Hurting the Flames' chances at making the playoffs for a 3rd round pick doesn't make much sense.

Personally never like him but then again the Panthers didn't give up anything. Got him for nothing but for the cap hit.

This got me a couple of years ago. There are a few golf courses across the US called Chevy Chase Country Clubs. At first I thought he really got into golf after caddy shack but nope, apparently these places are where he got the nickname from.
