i know we need more offense but if we did acquire (for the right cost) then wouldn't he instantly be our 4th best defenseman? 5th? also provides insurance if Ras is gone at some point.
what is the issue exactly?

Everyone's tradable if the return is worth it.
I can see them not actively shopping / trying to trade any of the vets. But that doesn't mean they won't do it if someone knocks their socks off.

Doesn't even have to knock their socks off, just has to make sense to them.

What’s the pick? Miromanov has no value

Lol..trusty old flames.
I really hope this is insurance for when they tade Rasmus rather then a win now move and they're loading up.

You would think Carlo could return something decent. His contract is affordable. He’s a 6’5” defenceman who is in his prime and only has 2 years left on his deal. I would worry what the cost would be.

Weegar had his best year offensively playing on his offside mostly with Rasmus last year. Maybe the Flames are thinking a big stay at home d-man on Weegar's right side will keep the pairs defensive numbers equal to that when Weegar is on his right but, at the same time, get Weegar's stick to the middle of the ice and bump his offense back up.

Cost and direction is the issue for me.
We're one of the lowest scoring teams in the league and *should* be just entering a re-whatever.
Why are we making win now moves?
If it's like Miromanov + a 6th, then whatever. I still don't like it because it's the type of move to keep us even more mid next year but atleast it's cheap.
If it's like a 2nd, then it's atrocious.

I like this if we trade Andersson. Carlo has an extra year at a very cheap contract. You could recover the assets you trade later to get him if you retain salary in a year or 2. He also will not command the same contract Rasmus might be asking for, even though that number is probably going down every time he steps on the ice.

Can't see the Bruins, much less anyone, interested in Miromanov.
I expect the cost would be a first round pick. He's the type of dman who is popular at the deadline.

fair point, i see it more as a transitional move - gets them a couple of years until the kids are ready...and there would still be 2 or 3 spots for them even with this guy.
biggest caveat is the cost - if it's something like you suggest then why not? still improves the team.
last note, i am not in the burn it all down camp either so take that as you will.

Yeah context can change alot with a deal like this.
Cost is a big one forsure.
And what other moves are they making? If they're planning to move Rasmus then I fully get it. They will need a bit of insulation.
I know they're not burning it down, so I don't even hope for that anymore. I just hope they don't rush the re-tool.

Why is every move that helps the team now only good now? Add Carlo, trade Rasmus (maybe in the summer) and have Carlo at Rasmus money for an extra year. Gives them more cap flexibilty that first year that Rasmus needs to be resigned or leaves. Picking up his replacement in a few years could be more expensive too as the cap goes up.
As prospects start to make this team, Carlo also could make Weegar expendable, and he will be 30 in 2 years and Weegar will be 33 and hopefully still has value.

Yeah, I don't disagree. That's what I said in my last post.
If they're using this to insulate for another trade, like Rasmus, then I get it.
If it's just a move to make them as competitive as possible for the next couple years and they re-sign Rasmus, then I don't love it.

Carlo has a 10-team no-trade list. I have to think Calgary is on that list.

Giving up any sort of meaningful pick for Carlo would be ill-advised, IMO.

Boston and Calgary make weird trade partners. Both teams are right on the cusp of playoffs vs a top 10 pick. Unless Carlo is a precursor to another trade this doesn’t really fit Conroys MO. Very strange.

And it would certainly take a meaningful pick(s) considering his salary and years of control.

I wonder if we can drive the price down by including Korpisalo and Vladar?
Waive Korpisalo his cap hit is $1.8 mil for 3 more years. He might consider terminating his contract if he gets sent down too.
Call up Cooley and get Carlo cheaper for taking on Korpisalo
