It's probably wanting to give Vladar an early game on this trip due to the time off, so he's not super rusty. His last game was Feb 2nd which is 3 weeks ago now.

But yeah that's a bit crazy when you need to get a good start on this road trip.

That pairing got torched.

Solovyov and Andersson were 1 / 2 in shots against, shot attempts against, scoring chances against, high danger against and were -1
I thought Solo looked good but that Andersson was a tire fire in that game.

Probably trying to help Ovi breaks the record sooner to rub it in the Oilers face...

Ovi scores in bunches. Caps are absolutely flying. Logan Thompson is rested. They are brimming with confidence while the Flames won't feel good about their last outing, plus travel.

Look for a 3-0 Flames shut out win.

Vladar shutout? I'd say the Caps score within the first 5 mins.

It was an expected loss either way... The hope would have been that Wolf would have defied expectations and stolen the game. When you look at it as most of these games are expected losses then it turns into trying to decide which teams to try to upset.

Perhaps they figure that the Lightning game is more viable to steal as they are 12th overall and, in theory, the second easiest game on the road trip.
- Let Vladar take the hit tonight and Wolf can try to beat the Lightning and Panthers
- Vladar can take the hit on the back-to-back game in Carolina.
- Then Wolf can try to secure the win against the Flyers and Vladar can take the hit against the Stars.

After the trade deadline the team heads back home and Wolf would be ready to play the Canadiens, rest a few days, play the Canucks... Avs game could be Vladar. Then off on another East coast road trip.

We got our Bahl back!

Why do i feel like Backs & Coleman kind of neuter Zary's offense and he might be better suited with the new guys.

That pairing isn't what they once were offensively.

Play Vladar against the team you most expect to lose to anyway, then play Wolf against the rest.

Strategy seems fine to me.

I mean spin the wheel I suppose but I could say that about Tampa Bay, Carolina, Dallas, Florida...

Your first game on a trip the players have suggested could be season defining you should probably put your best foot forward. This wont be it.

Nope. Play vladdy on the back to backs or near end of road trip when players are tired.

Every now and then Vladar has an epic performance in him.

Here's hoping this is one of those games.

Caps are the first place team in the league.

The Caps are 18-4-6 at home. Of all of the teams on this road trip they are the least likely chance for the Flames to steal a game.

This is a big road trip with a lot of tough opponents, I wouldn't hang my hat on the notion that the first game of the road trip is special. It isn't even the first game this week.

Anyway, this is a huge game for Vladar. He is being asked to be the meat shield for the team and for Wolf. I hope he steals it and silences the critics who are not understanding the role he is playing in taking these starts.

Yeah, by a lot too (them and the Jets). I've seen them play a few times this year, and they look to be the most complete team right now.

They're also riding a crazy PDO heater, kinda like Vancouver did last year. I suspect they'll crash and burn in the playoffs, but for now they're easily the toughest team in the regular season.

Lightning are 19-7-2 at home

We're splitting hairs here

Conceding a loss and starting your backup to reflect that is a ####ty way to start a trip. Its not a strategy.

I would agree.

He was late to pucks and turned it over quite a bit.
