Lol. Sheltered starts at a counting stat like GSAE? 7th in 24 games is incredible.

But you all know my opinion of goaltenders.

The Ducks give up more shots against per game than every other team in the league.

Only 5 teams are better than the Oilers at preventing them.

Are you claiming the Oilers are a defensive juggernaut? Interesting.

No.

Im claiming they are much better at shot suppression than the Ducks ....because they are. They are quite good at it.

Skinner is so hit or miss though...and Bouchard and Nurse are so prone to the really big mistake that when goaltending is off, its in the net almost every time.

Pretty hard to believe Gibson wouldn't be a big upgrade is all.

Geez I forgot he was still around.
Made me also think of Tyler Parsons. Whatever he’s doing I hope he’s healthy and happy.

Number of shots does not equal quality of shots.

In fact, they are often inversely correlated.

The Oilers have struggled defensively of late and they're vastly overrated around the league but it's a fallacy to suggest that a team that's won six rounds in the last three years is one of the worst defensive teams in the league. I think they're pretty average.

While it's completely understandable, expecting objectivity about a team's great rival on their fan message board is probably a lost cause.

Why is that a fallacy? They let go several of their best defensive players last summer, and when they won those playoff rounds they relied heavily on the offensive power of their top players. They were not anywhere near the best defensive team before, and this season they got substantially worse.

Out:
Ceci, Broberg, Desharnais

In:
Emberson, Brown, Klingberg

Stecher has been given a bigger role because they have no other options.

Bouchard has deteriorated defensively (which is saying something)

Suggesting they are the same team defensively as last year or the year before is a pretty hot take. Suggesting they are worse isn't a fallacy, it's a pretty straight-forward argument, based on the evidence above.

They also moved out some key defensive forwards in McLeod, Foegele and Holloway and replaced them with guys like Skinner.

It isn't the same team, and many of us have been saying so since July.

The Oilers depth is also getting old.

Nuge: 31
Hyman: 32
Ekholm: 34
Perry: 39
Arvidsson: 31
Henrique: 35
Ryan: too old to play.

This was always a top heavy team, but this year things are extreme. Beyond Draisaitl and McDavid, the only forwards above .5 PPG are Nuge and Hyman, and they are both having way below average seasons, with Nuge on pace for 53 points and Hyman on pace for 51 points. The team looks visibly slower and less able to defend.

Is this a good thread to be dunking on the Oilers’ deficiencies?

Yes.

Every thread is a good one for dunking on the oilers.
