Pinder mentioned on barnburner this morning that he's likely bound for Europe if he wants to keep playing - I feel like that's just not really a thing anymore. Especially a guy that made as much $$ that Barrie has in his playing career. I feel like the more common route nowaways is getting into coaching or management.

I am actually shocked a lot more players don't go overseas to Europe and experience the lifestyle, culture. The higher level players with strong NHL experience can get some marque Europe jobs playing in good cities/teams.

If you are in your 20's and 30's, why not go to Switzerland, Germany, Prague, Stockholm for a year or two? The higher salaries are actually really decent when the factor that the teams pay the taxes. If your making $400k CAD clear and living the lifestyle, what is the alternative that can't wait a few years?

The players who have gone have always had great things to say about the experience, the teams and the level of hockey.

He had a good run for a 3rd round pick and seems to be well respected around the league.

Kinda surprised they didn’t figure out a way to use him as a PP QB but the foot speed/skating was clearly an issue. I think he might get picked up.

Seemed like a good guy though. Glad it will create space for the yougher guys.

He was too much of a liability. He has always been weak defensively and now he is even worse because of his foot speed

I hope he does get claimed by a young team needing leadership. He is obviously not an NHL regular any longer, however, so I would be very surprised if he was claimed. I actually did like Barrie while he was in Colorado, but he was always a bit too one-dimensional. Father time really seems to catch up to these 1 dimensional players much more quickly it seems. Good luck to him whatever happens - Flames, Wranglers, other team, or wherever he goes on from here. He has a very well-known reputation for being a class A person and teammate, so you always hate to see things end for people like these.

This sucks. Barrie is one of the best lockerroom guys in the league from everything I have heard.

It's unfortunate but likely best for both parties.

Watch the Oilers pick him up!

Connor McDavid: Stan you cheap son of a bitch. Are you crazy? He's over the hill!

Stan Bowman: I got a good deal on him from the waiver wire. The scouts said he showed a lot of promise.

I feel for Barrie. It has to be really depressing to know that your hands, puck poise, and hockey sense are all still NHL quality, and it's really just your deteriorating speed that is holding you back from being in the big show.

Or just flat out retire.

But sounds like he’s a pretty highly regarded guy around the league. I’d bet he continues being involved somehow.

Hey, if Barrie wants to tough it out in the AHL on the chance of a call-up I'd never begrudge him that.

I'd be looking for a European job.

He's just such a border-line NHLer at this point, and thats tough. Its a difficult gig.
