That 2004 tournament gets overlooked a bit - doesn't help that it was right before the entire season was lost.

But that was a really fun tournament too. IIRC Canada's top line was Lemieux-Sakic-Iginla.

And as a Flames fan it was Peak Kipper vs Peak Iggy in the finals. With Reggie and Lydman on the teams too.

I am hoping for a win, then I can light up the cell phones of all the Americans I work with.

Do we have solid line ups for the game?

2004 gets overlooked because it wasn't a Canada-US rematch in the final. Kipper stood in his head in the semifinal. The Americans got their revenge on Kipper in 2010.

Hanifin wants to win for Trump. Guerin says his team was inspired by Trumps comments. This #### is truly disgusting.

Stupid question but is it only Sportsnet that’s broadcasting the game? I was able to watch it on city tv last Saturday.

Even putting all of the bs about Canada aside, any player ever saying they want to win for their countries leader is some cult s***.

Don't react. Just go out and execute and win like machines. They are trying to get us off our game.

It's really weird. If a TC player said they wanted to win for Trudeau it would be beyond strange.

It's time for the best Canadian players to request trades back to Canada. Far too many of the best Canadian players played entire careers in America. Point and Makar should request trades to the Flames tomorrow

It's not political though right?

Quote:

The Athletic’s Michael Russo asked USA General Manager Bill Guerin if Trump talked to the players about making Canada the 51st state.

“A little bit, but I would just try to focus on the message that he was giving us,” Guerin said. “I’ve said it before: we’re here to play hockey. This is not a political forum. This is a hockey tournament. And he’s just trying to be supportive in the best way that he could, and we appreciate it.”

And actually let in what was probably a soft goal by his standards with the Niedermeyer goal in the finals.

But in the end your point is right.

2002 and 2010 are both looked at more favorably than things like 2004, 2014, and 2016 because they beat the US in the finals.

Think the 1987 Canada Cup is looked at more than 1984 for a similar reason - they beat the Soviet Union in the finals when in 1984 it was Sweden.

I don't get this.

Konecny looked good vs Finland and IMO his grit would be welcomed vs the Americans.

The politics have ramped up the emotions going into the game, but I hope team Canada can just play cohesively and to the strategy the coaches dream up and win as the better team. Preferably deny any staged fights and draw the penalty to capitalize on the powerplay opportunities. If fights break out organically I’m all for it. Go Canada!
