Yeah if Andersson isn't getting traded, then while the Flames may still have interest in acquiring Cozens, we probably don't have the pieces to make the deal happen.
Pospisil, 1st & 2nd might get it done, but not sure I'd do that for Cozens.
If they want more current roster players I just don't see who else we'd give up that they'd want.

Id love Cozens but I think a team like Vancouver is better suited for that type of trade. If Petey doesnt start performing they will trade him before July 1st
Pettersson + for Cozens + Byram/Power

As much as some people dislike him, Seravalli has been saying that the Flames don't have the pieces for a Buffalo trade for quite a while now.

Could potentially see that. In that case, the flames would likely not be involved. Just a straight trade Cozens for Zegras. Not sure which team would have to add. Cozens is under contract for longer so there might be a perceived bigger risk if he doesn’t return to form. Zegras is injury prone and his qualifying offer in a year will be high.

Somethings probably still going to happen. Because when Zary come back the forward lines make no sense.
Farabee seems like a Pospisil upgrade. So him moving wouldn’t totally surprise me.
Backlund to the wing also wouldn’t surprise me and probably should happen if you want to keep developing zary as a center

Not even close.
Kerins likely has minimal value.

First Line Centre
|
Vladar, Honzek + 2025 1st (Florida)+ 2026 3rd for Cousins and Reimer
Seems like a lot but if we have Kadri-Cousins-Frost-Backlund/Zary as center depth for next 4-5 years we don't have a spot for Honzek anyway.
Frees up $7.5MM for Buffalo to target another free agent they would have to overpay to go there.

I wonder if there's any chance of them flipping frost for him. Sabres are still looking to win sooner then later and would want a young center back.
Have to think some guy like Rasmus, frost, farabee, sharangovich, pospisil or zary would be going the other way.
Wonder if you can get Byram or Samuelsson in there too.

It seems like the Sabres want to leverage Cozens for a bigger player like Pettersson instead of getting various assets like picks and young players for him.

The only way I see flames getting cozens is if buffalo changes their wants into a futures trade. Highly doubt they are going to do that.

If picks are being offered now the Sabres would be smart to take them... Move them at the draft if you want players, when the picks are worth more
Edit: Sabres arent smart, nvm

Glad that the idea is that Buffalo wants a hockey trade, not a futures trade. Calgary should be keeping as much of their futures as possible.
I am very intrigued by Cozens. He is too young to have trade protection, so I expect his price will be north of Miller's. No idea what would go the other way, but it certainly seems like a third team may need to get in place here. A non-futures deal would look more like picking from this bunch:
Huberdeau, Kadri, Backlund, Zary, Frost, Farabee, Weegar, Andersson, Bahl, Pospisil, Coleman, Coronato, Vladar/Wolf, Sharangovich.. Klapka maybe?
Just a list of established (or close to) players on the team. That's certainly enough flexibility and value for a Cozens trade, even factoring-in players with NMCs. It just may hurt as the young players may be the ones that end up going in exchange (Zary, Pospisil, Coronato, etc) because they don't have trade protection.
I would love to know what has been offered or asked for from either side, if it went that far.

Not happening. The Flames are still a centre short as they see Zary as a winger, they love Kadri, and most importantly Kadri loves Calgary and wants to stay. New C depth would be Kadri, Cozens, Frost, and Backlund. That's damn nice.

Buffalo would be lucky to get just Andersson for Cozens, nevermind more than that.

That'd be pretty cool if Conroy could land two 25U centers in quick succession, especially if he gets them at a discount and they come to Calgary and are reinvigorated with a change of scenery.

Both guys still have a lot of work to do, to get there, but having Cozens and Frost as a 1-2 punch down the centre would be fantastic. Cozens could become a 70 point guy and Frost a 50 point centre. Both with descent size and ability to carry the puck.

Yeah...I'm not sure how much more value he has than Frost TBH. And I think we can say Frost value around the league was probably around a 2nd.
Last Two Seasons:
Frost:
TOI: 1904
5v5 G: 18
5v5 P: 44
Total G: 25
Total P: 67
xGF% : 54.35%
GF%: 50.4%(62 GF - 61 GA)
Cozens:
TOI: 2268
5v5 G: 17
5v5 P: 47
Total G: 28
Total P: 73
xGF% 48.4%
GF%: 48.1% (74 GF - 80 GA)
Actual performance might actual lean towards Frost over the last two seasons. Better underlying stats, similar points and goals totals even though he played 350 fewer minutes.
Cozens is 2 years younger, bigger, and a RH shot which likely gives him slightly more value to GMs. But his $7.1M contract isn't great (although rising cap makes that less of a barrier if they hold him to move in the offseason).
The real problem here is Buffalo seems to want to move him to either upgrade C (Flames don't have a piece for that) or to shore up their RH d (Andersson's contract status is going to make that tough).
If I was Buffalo I'd be trading Cozens for the best total package instead of trying to finesse a "Hockey Trade" and then use all the assets you pick up to try to package together for the C or RH dman that you want.
(Although Pettersson being available is a barrier to that because Cozens would likely be the type of C Vancouver would need going back in any deal)

I can't see the Flames separating Frost and Farabee immediately if they want either player to be happy here long-term.
