Tough gig when you have 4 points in 4.5 games and in your first game when you're not bringing it you're given the boot.
But it's a process and this happens to the best of them. Look at coronato and pelletier. They're better for it. The caveat is that Kerins brought much more than those two in his first stint. Maybe they identified the skating as a weakness that needed work to keep up with the speed of the nhl, even though the rest was there.
Still think they could've given him another look after his benching. See if he can course correct without going back to the A.
Hopefully Zary is back soon.

I haven't heard anything recently about Zary but to me it doesn't make a lot of sense to send Kerins down just to bring up another guy who likely won't slot into the top 6.
Is Zary ready?

The impression I got was Zary isn't far away.
So why not keep the kid that can slot there and bring you something a few more games until he's back.
They'd rather roll extra grinders and ice a more offensively inept team in the meantime.
Lomberg (love him) should not be pushing up into your top 9.

Zary said at the poker tournament, he will be close to ready just before the break. Said he would use the break to get back into skating and would be ready right after the break barring any complications.
He specifically said he was not going to rush coming back for 1 or 2 games before the break, it just didn't make sense with the extended break. Better for him to be 100%
Don't think he said this to the media, just people playing at his table.
There is always the possibility he wasn't telling the whole truth.

Felt like the coach didn't like or want Kerins on the 4L, and wasn't going to slot him any higher once Pelletier moved up the 1L.
In other words he wants him playing more and Bishop is what he is so let him have that 6-8 minutes a night.
Which makes me wonder if, probably not tomorrow, but if Zary is back this week? Easy to put Bishop in the press box and move Pospisil or someone to that 4L spot.
Or they call Kerins back up tomorrow and this wall for nothing, just some cap stuff.
Edit - wrote this before seeing the post right above me. Likeliest scenario is Calgary not calling anyone up as they're at home for so long. If they need someone, they're literally a minute away.

I just think this comes down to a Pelletier pop and Kuzmenko playing better.
No room in the top nine.
Kerins is and was a good story, but he was 40% in XGF% in his NHL ice time (Rooney levels).
Get him playing big minutes in the AHL.

I think that he needs to keep working on his skating. He needs like a full off-season to get his feet moving quicker. When his skating drops even a bit, he becomes a liability at the NHL level. It would do wonders if he could get a similar improvement to what we saw from Coronato last year to this year.

My guess is this has been the plan the entire time.
No point in rushing him before the break - let him take his time and heal.

Especially with Sharangovich playing C and looking better at C than he has at W.
I acutally think there might be a world where Kerins goes down and maybe Stromgren comes up for a different look at Winger.

Before this season started I had pretty much written him off as a prospect, so this stint was just gravy. He's a potential part of the future now so that's a huge step forward for him. But I don't want him playing 4th line minutes, I don't think Huska does either. Go down to the A, keep improving and racking up points, and we'll see him again another day, probably due to trades or injuries. But it's great to see he's at least in the conversation now and not a write off.

Might be as simple as letting him go to the AHL all star game and skill competition.
Also there might still be a chance of a player like Rooney getting claimed if he gets waived, even though we think he's terrible, we've lost some forwards to waivers this year and maybe can't afford another loss of depth.
That said, Bishop should have gone down first IMO.

I hope Kerins takes this call up as a success, because it definitely was, and I'm certain this is what Huska and the staff are saying to him. 4 points in 5 games and a plus player on his first every taste in the show? Kerins found not just success, but huge success, in my view. He will now know what he needs to work on given his time up against NHLers in full-speed games. Work on those things and he'll be a solid piece moving forward for the Flames.

Lol.
"Our team is hurting for offense and you put up a point a game that wasn't by fluke but we just can't stomach the underrlying numbers."
I don't think any one's xGF was particularly glowing in that stretch leading up to that Wild game. Wolf held them in those games.
Kerins demonstrated NHL level instincts in the offensive zone in 4 games until his benching. He clearly has "it" and just needs to settle in and refine his game a bit.
Can't be compared to Rooney, who on top of poor underlying numbers is also mid on the pk and doesn't contribute anything significant. Kerins has the makings of a player that can.
Let's try and see the forest from the advanced stats.

The sample size here is 4 points.
Do you think he is a point per game guy in the NHL? Do you think those 4 pts should trump what we all observed with respect to his play?

Not to upset about it. Kerins looked good when playing in the top nine, and the eye test matched that. However with Kuzmenko getting hot there really is not much need for Kerins as he won't do a whole lot for you playing very limited minutes with Rooney and Bishop. Better off getting some games in at the AHL level and then heading to the all star game.

Just for comparisons to Rooney:
Kerins: 5 Games, 4 points
Rooney: 39 Games, 4 points
