It's ugly, but that team is better this year than last.

You are correct that their xGF% is high again this year but it's down at 5v5 vs. last year and the gap to teams not named Carolina is smaller.

Hasn't played a game in over 14 months. Hasn't been a + player over a full season since 2018-19.

Perfect Oilers signing.

I mean, he either will contribute positively or not play.
What have they lost? It's a worthwhile gamble.

Cap space to try and shore up their defense or get a trade deadline goalie. You know, fill the gaps they have?

Bouchard gets 63% of the PP time. Ekholm and Nurse split the rest. Anything Klingberg gets, he's taking away from them. Two things with that:
1) that will piss them off
2) the Oilers only improve if Klingberg provides more than they were on the PP from them.
Bouchard gets 4.5 P/60 on the PP.
Ekholm (who he would replace) is getting 5.8 P/60
To add value on the PP, Klingberg would have to do better than 5.8 P/60
Let's say, for fun, he does - he produces at 8 P/60 for the rest of the year. That would result in him getting 6 pts on the PP for the rest of the year, vs Ekholm who is on pace to get 4 pts for the rest of the year.
I doubt those 2 extra PP pts are the thing that Edmonton needs to get over the top. But that's just my opinion.

lol 5 players have more than 20 points. Flames have 6 players. 4 players have 10+ goals. The teambusually have less than 10 hits per game, sometimes as low as 4. They are butter soft and have nothing to combat the heavy play of the playoffs. Their record setting PK last post season is now 76% for 24th in the NHL. Paper Tigers at best

Wow...I've never seen a 0% EV defense score in an NHL player before. That's astounding. All offense, no defense. The perfect Oiler.

3 year average too, when he was a declining player.
Odd that it says "percentile ranking among forwards WAR"

He is the worst defenseman in the NHL. He makes Tyson Barrie look like Robyn Regehr

Nah. They still don't have the depth or the goaltending to win a Cup, and their much vaunted PK from last year's playoffs is gone and now sits 24th in the league.
Edmonton is no good.

Oilers are relying on McDrai more than ever...watch a game. Zero depth, which will cost them in the playoffs IMO

Team is old, slower, and soft. What they need: defense, grit, PK help
What they got: old, slowing, soft, offensive specialist and PP specialist.
And he won't play on much on the PP.
Okay, but he can help with 5on5 play right?
The Oilers are only a threat 5on5 when McDavid and Draisaitl are out together. And when they are, Bouchard and Ekholm play virtually all of the minutes, as a 5-man unit - other than that, they are pretty bad, 5on5. So Klingberg will be expected to prop up the offense of the remainder of the team.
Could Arvidsson do that? Nope (on pace for lowest PPG in 5 years)
Could Skinner do that? Nope (on pace for lowest PPG total in 5 years)
But surely Klingberg can. Right?
