At the United Cup, the States did defeat Croatia and end up winning Group A which eliminated Canada from the competition.

A heart-warming cancer story for a change...

Canadian tennis star Gabriela Dabrowski revealed Tuesday that she underwent two surgeries to treat breast cancer following a diagnosis in April.

The three-time Grand Slam doubles champion shared her story on social media, disclosing that she played through her diagnosis in a year she won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.

"I know this will come as a shock to many, but I am OK and I will be OK," Dabrowski wrote in an Instagram post. "Early detection saves lives. I can wholeheartedly agree with this."

Dabrowski kept the diagnosis private for months because she wasn't ready to expose herself to the ensuing questions and attention.

Dabrowski first felt a lump in her left breast during a self-exam in the spring of 2023, but a doctor told her a few months later not to worry about it.

A year later, she felt the lump get bigger and a WTA doctor told her to get it scanned after a physical.

Dabrowski then underwent a series of examinations before a radiologist said the lump looked concerning and called her in for a biopsy the following morning.

"The preliminary results came back that day: cancer," she said. "These are words you never expect to hear, and in an instant your life or the life of a loved one turns upside down."

Dabrowski didn’t let cancer affect her on-court performance.

She had a three-month layoff after losing the Miami Open doubles final in late March, but she returned to compete in June at the Nottingham Open, which she won alongside partner Erin Routliffe of New Zealand.

Two weeks earlier, she couldn't lift her arm high enough to serve, needing help from a coach to toss the ball.

Dabrowski also had a slight delay in her treatment so she could compete at Wimbledon in July and the Paris Olympics in August.

Gabriel Diallo lost to #2 seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-4 6-3, but a fine showing by Gabriel coming through qualifying to make the main draw and winning two main draw matches to kick off his 2025 campaign.

Reilly Opelka eliminated Novak Djokovic in straight sets in Brisbane 7-6 6-3. Wowza.

I get the feeling this will be his final year on the tour.

Gael Monfils has played Novak 20 times and has lost all 20 matches. Reilly Opelka is undefeated versus Novak (1-0)

Ergo, Opelka > Monfils

That was a really good match between Iga and Elina with Iga prevailing in straight sets and punching Poland's ticked to the United Cup final.

Yup, Nick is lashing out because he realizes his career is over. His body is breaking down (latest being his surgically repaired wrist that can't hold up to the rigors of pro tennis) and of course jealously that his former girlfriend hooked up with a better player (and person).

lol - No, there have been far worse players to make a Wimbledon final. I remember a guy from New Zealand in the 80's (Chris Lewis I think was his name) who had a magical fortnight to make the SW19 final.

It just bugs me because I used to be a huge Kyrgios fan, his talent is undeniable, unfortunately his behavior over the last several years has been reprehensible and anybody coming to his defense these days is just turning a blind eye and denying what a bad actor he is. Nick thinks he's still good for tennis and brings viewers to the game, but he's just a sideshow at this point.

So, there have been some withdrawals from the Adelaide tourney and as a result, Felix is now seeded and will not be playing Shapo in the opening round, Denis will take on Zhang Zhizhen later today.

Denis wins in straights sets 6=3 6-4 over Zhang Zhizhen and looked very good out there today. Leylah lost her match to Alexandrova in three sets however..

Was surprised to see that Dan Evans had to qualify, and that he lost in first round AO qualifying.
