Now there are 3-4 teams calling about Vladar with 1-2 offers incoming?

Glad to hear there were 4 or 5 teams looking at Blackwood - this is the first domino in the goalie sweepstakes, and bodes well for a Vladar move.

Good trade for both teams, imo. I thought Kovalenko was okay for a rookie but he's a bit older, already 25. Blackwood was at one time thought to be Canada's #1 goalie but he had 3 subpar season in New Jersey and wasn't great last season, either. Goalies are voodoo.

Granlund will no doubt be a hot target but it's always risky going from top guy on a bad team to mid-guy on a better team. Expectations are usually higher than reality dictates. Jamie Baker syndrome.

Anybody know much about kovalenko? Makes me wonder what vladdy is worth? San Jose took on a bit of money with a bad contract in Georgiev and got a 2nd and a player I don’t know.

I expect Blackwood had a higher trade value, since he's been pretty good this year and has previously been a starter.

If you havent watched much of the Sharks this season, its hard to understand how good Blackwood has been.....stats aside.

Eye test wise he has been among the best in the league IMO. About a month ago i watched them play the Devils in a game where he had a 45 (iirc) shot shutout and made at least 8 10 bell saves. I watched that game because I was going to see them against the Rangers a few days later...and he was that kind of good yet again in a 3-2 loss at MSG.

Im actually surprised the Avs made another trade for a G after doing so a week ago, but there is zero doubt in my mind they got the best guy available by a mile.

This looks like a win/win for both teams at first blush.

What does this return suggest for a potential Vladar return? It’s tough because there were multiple pieces to this trade rather than just a trade with a goaltender going one way and picks/prospects going the other way. I think part of why the sharks got a 2nd round pick was because they took back a bad contract.

So I wonder if Calgary would have to take back a bad contract that expires this summer in order to get a 2nd for Vladar.

Well, Smith just cleared waivers, so probably just a body to even out hte contracts. Kovalenko as I said, looked okay for a rookie, but he is 25 and only has 8 points in 25 games on a team that scores a lot, so he's probably an NHLer, but not an irreplaceable one. Basically it's a goalie swap with retention and the 2nd to take that on, plus the fact that Blackwood is better.. Georgiev is UFA next summer.

100%.

Easy to say I’d have taken that for Vladar, but there is a lot of league wide respect for Blackwood. He’s seen as someone who could flourish in the right environment. This deal isn’t on the table for Vladar

It's 3 games and his play was wildly different in them.

Blackwood is a real unknown still. His numbers don't shine. But it was with the Sharks (and before that a mainly bad Devils team) so who knows. Mind you, he is, in part, why Markstrom is in NJ.

Blackwood looked great in the loss to the Panthers on Saturday too (54 shots against!). When I was watching that game there were tons of high quality changes that Blackwood bailed out the Sharks. It should have been 6-1.
