Agreed but putting our 3 highest paid forwards together is more about balancing the other 2 lines rather than making that line go. If the Flames were to go on a run to the playoffs like 2015 I think it would be super neat if our best 2 young forwards had some great chemistry and looked like a long term fit. Our 2 best pure snipers on that line would be interesting to watch.

A good trip would put them in a really good position with a cushion, probably solidly in 1st in the Pacific.
One game at a time. All hands on deck!

Which is wild. Absolutely balls-out bonkers.
This team was supposed to Suck. Out. Loud.
If someone had told me this at the beginning of the season I'd have laughed in their face.
Now...of course, there is still plenty of time to fall flat on our faces, but...we bought the ticket now we have to take the ride.

I think the message is don't be impatient. It didn't make sense for them to spend a 7th overall and 11th overall pick on two players that were not locked down long term. They pulled a Hamonic trade twice.

I agree with you. It is also a caution that sometimes it is hard to get specific pieces via the draft alone and culture matters a great deal.

They also ended up having the actual Hamonic on their team. Also a poor decision.

Flames never seem to play well in this building even when Ottawa has been bad. The Senators still stink but I expect this could be a game where the Flames trip up.

Maybe they should, you know, hire a good coach, or even an average head coach? DJ Smith should have never been hired to coach an NHL team and Travis Green came out of the same dumpster Brad Treliving dove and found Gulutzan. Building a good young roster doesn't mean a lot if you are hiring bad coaches.

That top line has some intrigue for me and if they clicked could be a long term line for the team.
|
They only just rejigged the lines a couple games ago. I wouldn't change anything for 5 more games at least. I get you want Zary/Coronato for the future, but throwing them together after they've been going well on their existing lines could cause a stumble.

It looked like Vladar tweaked something in the third period against the Wild, and was struggling in the third. Wonder if that is why he is not back in the net today

The thing with Ottawa is the trades for Debrincat and Chychrun haven't even really hurt them yet, which is even scarier for them.
2022 7th OV (Korchinski), 2022 39th OV (Ludwinski) , and 2024 3rd from the Debrincat deal would only just be starting to make an NHL impact now and mostly would be in their rookie seasons.
2023 12th OV (But) and 2024 49th OV pick (Yegorov) and 2026 2nd round pick would not be making NHL impacts yet.
But those two bad moves have drained their prospect pool, while also limiting their ability to make other moves that might have come up this season.
So now the roster they have is harder to add pieces to because the trades they make have to be more of a "hockey" trade".
They turned Debrincat into Ullmark (with some other moving pieces) and that's been a bit of a failure so far with Ullmark not really upgrading on Korpisalo and Kastelic being pretty good for Boston).
They turned Chychrun into Nick Jensen and a 3rd...which Sens fans have liked Jensen but turning a 12th OV pick into a 34 year old 2nd pairing dman is never a good move.
