Huska gave the players the weekend off; it will be interesting to see if they have a lot of jump at the get-go.

Well poops. I guess Vladar for the Rangers game that I'm going to.

I hoped Klapka will play today. Rooney - Klapka may connect well together.

I prefer that Rooney is out. Nothing against him other than he is probably not part of the long term plans and his contract ends this season.

The west looks like a disaster this year. Only 5 teams in a positive goal differential.

The playoffs and tank are going to go down to the wire.

The east is no hell either - only 7 teams above .500

Wow a team with a worse power play than the Flames.

How many games do you guys think Wolf will get with the "training wheels on" till he faces elite competition? Sure he has a good record, but it's against mid to bottom tier teams. I would wager Vladar plays the Rangers, unless Wolf is tremendous tonight.

On a percentage basis. But they've scored 7 goals to the Flames' 4 (5on4).

It'll be New Years before the Flames hit 7 PP goals.

On paper maybe, but by the numbers the Flames have actually been stronger defensively with Vladar in net than Wolf.

I think the way Huska is managing the goalies is bang on. Neither of them is a proven starter, but BOTH of them have starter potential, and BOTH of them may be ready to be starters now.

I would keep alternating goalies every game unless one gets a shut-out, or at least obviously steals a game. Both goalies deserve to play, and both goalies need to play in order to improve. Both goalies may be around next year, who knows? Make the high-water mark very high for one to get consecutive games, and try to make one or both goalies reach that more consistently.

However you feel about Wolf or Vladar, both of them finishing this season with ~41 games is a really good season for their development in the NHL. The one that reaches the higher bar more often this season plays more games, but realistically the variance probably shouldn't be greater than ~35-48 split. Gone are the days when you have a goalie playing 70 games in a season, and 35 games seems on the lighter side for either goalie after showing what they have so far this season.

Things obviously change if there is an injury, or if one of the goalies has a bad stretch, or if someone (Vladar) gets traded. I think it is actually in the best interests of the team to run with both goalies for now as it either allows both goalies to improve if the Flames end up keeping both goalies, and it also allows for Wolf to improve while increasing Vladar's value on the trade market too. Whatever is decided in the end (and I am convinced Vladar gets traded this season based on Wolf's development as well as Cooley's performance on the Wranglers), I think the best way forward is to play both goalies fairly equally, and have one start consecutively only when they have a shutout, or at least have a remarkable 'stand on his head' type of night.

I don't think the Flames are sheltering him at all. He played against the Jets.

Huska is alternating them unless someone gets a shutout so both guys challenge each other. It's just the way the schedule has been laid out.

So glad for this thread. Went to sportsnet app and there is not one story, video, article or even mention of the Flames or this game. It’s a joke.

And Flames renewed with Sportsnet?

Update!!

Flames game listed under the articles under the top videos and stories…like how stutzle has reached new levels and how Thompson is building a case to make 4 nations.
