Rooney makes only 1.3 million. Not many expected Schwindt to be claimed either. Conroy won't take the risk.

Any chance we can just have Kirkland and Rooney switch jerseys every few games and keep both up

$1.3M for a 13th forward is a lot and not at all enticing to any team that is truly in the mix for the playoffs based on what Rooney can give you.

Schwindt is nearly a decade younger and makes league minimum. Room to grow and isn't paid like a regular bottom of the lineup player if you have to sit him...the two situations are really not very comparable at all.

I would be okay if they moved Sharangovich into Coronatos current spot and had Rooney as the 13th forward when everyone’s healthy.
Coronato doesn’t look bad on the 4th line. The 4th line actually generates offense. He’s more ready than Honzek.

Hanley is a guy I would earmark. He hasn’t played a game yet

Rooney should go down and Costco should stay up.

Rooney has been waived and demoted every year he's been in Calgary. This one won't be an exception.

The culture stuff is over-stated. I don't think keeping him and sending down someone else would erode the culture. I realize Rooney is the chew toy for this fan base but I don't think that's how the team views him or his team-mates.

1 assist in 6 games, averaging just over 9 minutes per game. 69.4% (25-11) on faceoffs though, which is pretty great and what you want from a 4th line center.

I'd say for a 4th line center, he has been adequate.

Rooney is not a waiver claim risk.

We can send Hanley down lol, why do we need to send any of Coronato or Klapka or Rooneys

I agree, Hanley is the obvious guy to send to the Wranglers. Unless, of course, there's an injury to a defenceman in the meantime; in which case nobody needs to be sent down.

Schwindt wasn't viewed as a waiver risk either.

And he's certainly not someone you overly want to worry about losing, either.

I think I'm in agreement with the idea of sending Honzek and Coronato down. Nothing wrong with the AHL team being a wagon and maybe those two could generate some chemistry playing significant minutes while they wait for top 9 opportunities to open up on the big team via trade or injuries.

Sharangovich coming back presents some interesting opportunities. Going off of last season one approach could be to look at which lines controlled play and generated chances the best (expected goals for%):

Huberdeau Sharangovich Kuzmenko xGF 64.3% in 101 mins
Zary Kadri Pospisil xGF 53.2% in 381 mins
Coleman Backlund ????? xGF 51-61% (they are good with everyone... Maybe Mantha would work here)

Lomberg Kirkland Coronato were pretty decent through 3 games but I wonder if Duehr deserves another shot after his great start in the AHL?

Regardless of what they do, having one more top 9 forward makes a big difference and it also happens to be their top goal scorer from last year.
