to me I'm going to skip right past the single player vanity numbers. some of the all time greats there for sure, but Orr was also in their category and once he grabs Beliveau let alone anyone else I'm more interested in that than a single player
I think 4,9,19 all good calls
I'll throw out a bit of love for 7 (partly because Rick Martin- my favorite as a kid was 7) but 7 is interesting- 3 stars who were 7s until they weren't (Esposito, Bourque, Coffey), Lanny wore 7 for the Leafs, Mullen, Lindsay, Chelios was 7 for a stretch, Ullman, the non Matthew Tkachuks, Tim Horton, Morenz, Rod Gilbert, Bill Barber. Bobby Hull wore it briefly but he's not a 7

Throwing a couple more numbers out there:
77 - Bourque, Coffey, Hedman, Esposito
21 - Mikita, Forsberg, Slamming, Carbonneau
--- a bit sentimental
13 - Sundin, Datsyuk, Selane, Gaudreau, Squid

#9 was traditionally considered the number to be awarded to the best player.
But I have to go with 4. The best player of all time wore it, plus Beliveau who is widely considered top 10.
For 9, you have Howe, arguably the first best player of all time, plus Richard and Hull.
Close call I guess.

Got me wondering, so I googled:
#0 - worn by one player in 1988, Neil Sheehy, Hartford Whalers
#00 - worn by Biron in '96 in Buffalo and Davidson in '78 for the NYR

I love when a forward wears #7.

agree but it goes no lower
6 used to be worn by old timey forwards in the day of rail travel, and even by the 70s Ron Ellis looked weird to me
Boeser I get there are some personal connections.
but otherwise no to 6 or lower to forwards (again Beliveau gets a train era exemption) but not now
Rory Kerins isn't really wearing 6 for the Wranglers is he??

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Tonelli... Who am I missing? Kevin Stevens maybe?
