AHL goalie of the year twice. AHL MVP once. How could you possibly justify sending that guy down.
I’m guessing this is the last try out game and the starters are going to play the last two on Wed and Fri

I'd be shocked if waiver eligibility is the sole determining factor. Every player will be evaluated on their own. I do agree though that the starter and the backup will see time in the final 2 games of the preseason. With the first game not until next Wednesday, I'm curious if they'll give each guy one game, or play the starter something like 1 and a half.

Re Cooley:
It's important to keep in mind that the media is always going to put a shine on guys who make their job easier. Cooley is a great interview, naturally the folks at 960 are going to want him around. The Flames management will have a slurry of different factors to consider.

I could see the Flames keeping all three goalies to start the season.

How confident are we that Barrie gets a contract?

I don't see the point unless they are looking to flip him at the deadline.
All you probable get is a 4th at best though. I would rather give Solo more NHL time.

Why protect a 27 year old goalie you signed two months ago with 6 games of NHL experience and instead lose a key young forward or defenseman to waivers.

All I can get
|
Coronato
Grushnikov
Pelletier
Klapka
Morton
Soloyovov
Auditioning for a roster spot.
Honzek being rewarded for a strong camp. He'll go down to the Wranglers super motivated by how close he is.

The radio broadcast is on SN960, but if you want video, it will only be on the Flames' website or app.

They seem really high on him. Huska's prior comments about game breakdown stood out to me (he said something like 40-30-10 in an interview).
I probably wouldn't do it, but if they feel like the incoming draft class has already passed Pelletier (to name one) on the depth chart, then maybe that's a gamble they take.

Looks like final tryout night, with:
Honzek
Pelletier
Coronato
Morton
Klapka
Solovyov, and
Barrie
all in the lineup.

Everybody already knows what Barrie brings to the table, seeing him on PP2 makes me think he'll be signed sooner or later. He doesn't need to audition for that role, seems like they're just getting him primed for the regular season.
Which is fine with me. Give him some playing time, rack up some pints, and sell to the highest bidder before the TDL. Ditto for Mantha and Kuzmenko. Signing Barrie as a UFA and then getting any asset in return in a trade is the way to go. Pile up those future picks/prospects.

I think Pelts is in really tough to make it. I think Pelts knows that too. His competition is VERY aware they hold their own fates in their hands .
Conroy has made it very clear. We need to know what we got . We think we know and they just have to prove us right about them.
Some guys arent going to be able to help themselves. Its too bad because everyone likes the guy and he seems to really help and encourage Huberdeau but i see better options . There are hungrier guys that have all around better games that i think are more durable.
Pelts seems 1 hit away from not ever making it to me. Weve seen it happen here before and this just seems too familiar. I hope im wrong.

Aside from the absence of Zary, I like those forward lines more than I liked the starting lines at the beginning of last season.

I really hope they don’t unless they are trading andersson in the next month or so.
We have a bunch of young guys that can play. Give them a chance.
