This is how I would roll. I would not be surprised with a lot of different things happening though.
Sharangovich Kadri Kuzmenko
Huberdeau Pospisil Mantha
Zary Backlund Coleman
Klapka Rooney Lomberg
Honzek
Coronato
Weegar Miromanov
Bahl Andersson
Grushnikov Pachal
Solovyov
Wolf
Vladar
I would see how the first 15 to 20 games went for the NHL/AHL teams and not be afraid to make moves based on who deserved things and not just contract status alone. I would show that the always earned never given mantra wasn’t just lip service.

You could say that about a number of players depending upon what happens
Pelletier
Duehr
Mantha
Barrie
Miromanov

How has Kuzmenko looked ?
Also if they want to try Zary at C I can see him going between Huberdeau and Mantha with Pospisil centering the 4th line and slapping Coronato with Backlund and Coleman.
Rooney belongs in the AHL.

Who would trade a 3rd for Pelletier? He’s an AHL player.

I doubt Pospisil is going to be playing 4th line minutes.

Rather have him on the 4th line than waste Coronato getting 8 minutes.

I want to see Coronato play in another exhibition game; his play could be tailing off as the competition has increased in preseason.
I recognize that I have FOMO on Pelletier going elsewhere and potentially finding the game that many were thinking he had to begin the season last year. Still, maybe a smart approach is for the Flames to give him 10ish games to start the regular season in the NHL to see how he performs against real competition?
The other thing I wonder is if he is playing the game the way the coaches want him to play most non-professional hockey scouts here don't notice.

The challenge with that is that he is less likely to clear, if he is waived 10 games into the season. Might be better to waive him now, let him get some games behind him, then bring him back when there are trades/injuries

You don't like Bean? He's been quite good in the games I've watched him so far.

Yup, that's one of the considerations Conroy has to keep in mind. That's why I find these discussions on possible moves so intriguing; it's not only about black-and-white decisions about who are the best players who should make the team out of the gate but incorporating the very subjective asset management considerations, too.

Better career numbers than Miromanov and Pachal, and more games played and better PPG than Bahl. He's a former 1st round pick with almost 200 games under his belt - he's a given for the big club.

And sometimes fans forget that the Day 1 decisions aren't set in stone for the entire year - there are 82 separate lineups, over the course of the season.

I don't care who else makes it, but I want a Klapka Pospisil Lomberg line.

That works both ways though.
Also a reason not to panic if you don't start game one with Coronato on the roster.

I think that we will see asset management favoured over “win games”.
I don’t think that the flames will risk losing any young players on waivers, and instead will keep them and reduce the risk of losing players that have upside.
If flames might lose a player on waivers, it should be a an older player rather than a younger player.
There will be plenty of opportunities in the coming year, and the focus should be on development, not trying to move farther back in the draft by winning without purpose.
Any UFAs should also either sign or be traded prior to the deadline.
It’s not scorched earth, but it is for the future.

Kuzmenko and Mantha will revert to the players they always have been and get benched or have their ice time reduced. That will be when the young guys will need to step in and step up and hopefully never give back those spots.
I expect a young guy(s) to be sent down that might not deserve it, but they won’t be down long

What I want to start season:
Sharangovich Kadri Kuzmenko
Huberdeau Pospisil Coronato
Zary Backlund Coleman
Klapka Rooney Lomberg
Mantha
Pelletier
Weegar Miromanov
Bahl Andersson
Grushnikov Bean
Pachal
Wolf
Vladar
Waive/Send down Cooley, Hanley, Tinordi, Duehr, etc.
Don't sign Barrie. Honzek and Hunter are better off starting in the AHL.
