But, FanIn80 it is 2026. How long were you asleep man?
BTW, the Flames won the cup. Very unexpected.

I had to pay $300 to get it back. Showed them copy of my valid registration (renewed for another year in June when I bought the vehicle), as well as valid ins and DL.
They handed me a ticket for "parking on the street with expired plates" and a form to fill out to dispute it. Also another form to dispute the towing and storage fees.
What a piss off. Drove my roommate to the airport on Sunday, parked in front of my house when I got home. Wake up today and notice it's gone. I was sitting on hold waiting to talk to the police when I googled how to check if ibe been towed... punched in my license plate and that's how I found out.
Guy at the impound was like, "yeah I can see it's registered, so I don't know what happened, but you have to pay anyway."
What an unbelievable scam.
Have you talked with the police yet about pressing charges for extortion? If they are willing to at least investigate that it might get you your money back a little quicker.
Based on your story it doesn’t sound like they any legal right to have towed or held your car from you.

I would for sure phone 911 saying I got my car stolen and the guy is threatening me.
I’m guessing the city was called and wrote the towing ticket? And it was a city lot since they gave you a ticket?
I’d start the paperwork they gave you…
I mean surely the city will revoke the ticket and refund you for the towing fee? If they don't that's straight up criminal. I know it's likely a private towing company, but the city must have some kind of deal worked out with them? Either way, it's the city's fault for wrongly ticketing you.

Only CPA can order a vehicle towed so one of their people must have screwed up. I would demand compensation and go to a mechanic to see if there’s even the tiniest bit of damage due to the tow.

Oh yeah, I'd be pointing out all the little nicks and scratches everywhere and saying "that wasn't there before."
What happens if you go in there and start driving your car around the impound lot. Trespassing? Can you counter that with their possession of stolen property?

It has been 20+ years since I've been to the impound lot but that place is an impenetrable fortress. You can't just go into the lot.

Yeah I'm still baffled about this whole thing. I don't even know how it could happen... There are no stickers anymore, so it's not like someone saw my car parked with an out of date sticker (I stripped all the old ones off long ago). So that means, on a residential street in Mackenzie without an exit, with maybe 15 cars parked on it, my plates got ran by a parking guy and he mistakenly issued me a ticket for expired plates and towed me.
Orrrr... my dickbag neighbour who's always yelling at people driving by reported my car... and they mistakenly (wrongly) (hopefully not purposely) issued me a ticket for expired plates and towed me.
It was everything I could do to calmly pay the fees and get my car back without getting tossed out and/or arrested.
I have thought about going to the police and asking them to run my plates and tell me if it shows as registered in their system. That doesn't really seem plausible though, since they wouldn't have been able to print my registration (which has everything correct) without the record being saved.
It will allow me to tell the whole story to them and see what they have to say, though.
My initial thought was that maybe some one switched plates with a similar car they stole, but it sounds like someone just messed up. Maybe fat fingered the plate when checking and it just happened to be a similar car.
