Probably better to sign Zary to a two year deal at around 4 million a year when the Flames have tonnes of cap space and then sign him to a 8 year deal at closer to 8 million than it is to sign him to a 8 year deal at around 6-7 million and use up two of those years where they have tonnes of cap space.

I don't understand the logic, in 4 or 5 years they probably need the cap savings so having Zary at 6 instead of 8 would be beneficial. Zary will be 24 next season, the Flames should be looking at an 8 year deal assuming he doesn't take a step back this season.

Id watch how Zary is playing this season and if he keeps playing well why not give him 8 years
